Terrific film.
’Margin Call’ is on Amazon Prime at present. Similar subject matter, maybe even better than ‘The Big Short’. Less flashy and funny, but more thrilling.

Yeah, really enjoyed that. Well made & acted, worthy but entertaining, and surprisingly quite a ‘feel good’ flick.
For any fans of ‘The Sopranos’, the Tony Lip character played by Viggo Mortensen...
‘Dead Man’s Shoes’ is on Film 4 at 11.05pm this evening - one of my favourite films, a real gem from Shane Meadows & Paddy Considine.
The Ballad of Lefty Brown - 7/10
Enjoyable, if unremarkable, revenge Western. Bill Pullman is good, but the film as a whole doesn’t do anything that hasn’t been done better elsewhere, and lacks...
Completely agree.
I'm ambivalent towards some of the Coen Brothers' work, but this, whilst still oddball in nature and not traditionally 'enjoyable', was absolutely brilliant.

Dead Man's Shoes is a favourite of mine - it was on TV late one Sunday evening years ago and I started watching with no idea of the plot, actors etc. and it held me transfixed throughout. A real gem.
‘The Drop’ - Crime ‘thriller’ most notable for being James Gandolfini’s last role, but otherwise a bit boring and a waste of a quality cast, with Tom Hardy playing low-key mumble-fest.
'Saving Private Ryan' on TV the other night - hard to believe it's now 20 years old. Following on from the 'Dunkirk' thread, it reminded me of how superior SPR is. Very emotional in parts, too. A...
Saw that a few days ago, thought it was great.
Somewhat of an allegory for parenting, I thought, which was a much scarier & more affecting concept than the actual monsters themselves.
It...
‘The Homesman’.
Bleak Western, in which Tommy Lee Jones (also the Director) & Hilary Swank take three mentally-ill women on a long journey from the ‘Wild West’ to a care facility in the East.

Incredible film, easily in my top five - Paddy Considine, Toby Kebbell & Shane Meadows are all brilliant.
