My M&S machine has come to the end of its life it would seem after a recommendation from here if I remember correctly many years ago! Thought I had it sorted after stripping and replacing a leaking pipe but it’s now dumping water in coffee waste bin and display panel not working.. Can any one suggest another good machine that will be of good service for a few years?

Jura machines are well thought of, a few friends have them.

What about this? Approach any restaurants or cafes near you that have gone into admin or are returning or similar, see if they’ll take cash for their commercial machine.
My mate did that and ended up with a gorgeous plumbed-in machine in chrome. As you can imagine, he’s drinking nicer coffee than most of us.

I use Jura and it’s been brilliantly reliable. You can fine turn a number of key variables for exactly how you like your coffee. Cleaning is simple, albeit as noted above the tablets and filters are comparatively expensive.
It’s easy to service and worse case they have an excellent service centre that collects overhauls and returns for fixed fees.
Following a friends recommendation I bought a Jura, so far 4 years and it’s not missed a beat. Straight out the box used lavazza beans and coffee was just to my taste so didn’t need to adjust anything.
Bought mine from their outlet website, you get to choose the one you want like buying a car, they can tell you how many cups it’s brewed, it seems they do deals with big companies so they get batches of different models, mine came back showing it hadn’t been used. I s-ole to a member of staff who even went and looked at, he said they probably ordered to many or decided it was to big, win me for me I got 50% off.
I religiously follow the clean and replace filter routine.

We had a gaggia one for ages. It had to go back to the co for repair a couple of times over the years and whilst the co were themselves fairly poor the machine gave good service. Eventually I replaced it with a melitta. It's ok, no more. The self feed system from the hopper just doesn't really work and the milk system has too many joints so can't hold pressure properly. Fortunately that is fixed by just using a cup of milk. The coffee is fine.
Would I buy another Melitta, no.
I really ‘want’ a bean to cup - only ever have black coffee so are there any budget options for this

Delonghi Magnifica with manual frothing (i.e. a steam wand) here, we've had it about 4 1/2 years and probably made an average of a cup a day maybe a bit more. It's been very good though sometimes it indicates the grounds receptacle is full when it isn't and you just have to jiggle it. It was about £200 on an amazon deal.

Looking at CCC it's frequently down at 235 or less.
I bought one the Delonghi ESAM 2800 bean to cup (cheapest model I think)Christmas time, it was about £160 on offer Argos.
Used it 2 to 3 times a day since and been excellent, only thing is don't use it when anyone is in bed, it make a right racket.
Maybe the more expensive models are quieter.
Just a heads up about the Magnifica units of which I had two in the space of a few weeks. I drink 100% espressos and I found it couldn't cope. Adjusting the grind/amount etc.... to give a 'proper' espresso and it just couldn't manage it. What I mean is the first machine one was okay for a week and then started playing up. I contacted Delonghi and they took it back and swapped it. The second one gave up after a week! I spoke to Deloghi on the phone and the bottom line was it couldn't manage a double espresso. Sent back for a refund. It seems it wasn't good at coping with the pressures required for a decent espresso, typically 9bar. If you have other coffee types then that might not matter though, in essence, an espresso is the root of all types of coffee re. latte, americano, etc...

De Longhi Perfecta, we have owned it for around seven years.
The heating element has two separate coils.
One failed, which caused the heat-up time to increase from 20 seconds to around one minute, and the second coil failed 6 months after that.
A new heating module was £30, and 20 minutes to fit.
The old girl is now restored to full health and producing 4-5 Americano coffees every day without any further issues.
Seconded, esam 2800 best purchase I've ever made (paid around £180) makes great coffee and a lot of noise! I'm not allowed to use it before 7am....but I do then leg it out of the house hoping everyone will have forgotten by the time I get home later [emoji16]Quote:

Well got the machine and appears there’s a problem with the PCB as it’s only grinding for 2 seconds producing flavoured hot water only..! Very frustrating but this sort of thing seems to happen these days!
They told me I was lucky yesterday after the biggest bird poo you have ever seen landed on my head, face, sunglasses, t shirt, shorts and shoes whilst engaged in conversation under a tree. Didn’t know we had albatross’s in the UK? Even landed on my vintage watch that can’t go near water, oh such fun!!!
