It is curious.
Going to ask them? (He asks nosily)

That bracelet looks rather good - I've just sent something off to Seth at the other place but I'll have to keep this in mind.
The caseback stipulation is interesting and I'd want to find out a little more before surrendering anything to Bienne. Everybody seems to have a high opinion of the service manager at STS (with the possible exception of pipsqueak) so perhaps pick up the phone. I'd also be looking at examples on Ebay to see if there are any like yours.
Just checked my CD186.0005 ( gold plated rectangle version) and that has product detail, Omega stamp and case ref.
Not that it proves anything either way, but suppose mine would be able to be guaranteed water resistent if serviced by Omega or their agents.
According to STS its the fact that the 'Seamaster' back (which is the correct one) doesnt have the required references stamped on the inside. They would return the original if proceeding with replacement.
Update!
It arrived back from Bienne via STS yesterday

Fully serviced with new case back and pushers
With reference to previous posts concerning the case back - here is the original. As you can see there are no reference numbers etc engraved on the inside

Now back on its recently refurbished original Omega bracelet

It not quite perfect but not far off. A couple of dings here and there that couldn't be polished out completely and some wear to the bezel including a slight crack at 10 o'clock but not very noticeable at all

I wonder how many of these rarer round case LCD Speedmasters are left?
Ian
Sorry, forgot to say - in relation to a few earlier posts regarding case size here are some measurements taken this morning

Excellent, thanks for the update!
Must be lovely to have it back.
Thanks Mark
Feels as though its been away for years!
Thanks
Thought that I would try it on a Hirsch this afternoon
I quite like it

Great to see it back Ian.
Now on my hit list. For my money the original bracelet tops all the leather and nato options. Just gives it the vintage vibe.
Shortly after the above post, due to the need to raise some cash quickly I sold this back to Dan (Caruso)
Fast forward to this week and it becomes the latest of my watches to be passed to and fro with another forum member
Looking forward to getting it back tomorrow and I am grateful to Dan for letting me have it!
I have in mind trying it on a Bonetto Cinturini rubber strap
A very different speedie.....abosultely perfect in every way. Love it.
Happy for you Ian and chapeau to Caruso.
VeryVERY cool watch imo.
They only made them for a year I believe.
Good quality Omega luxury watch with modern tech accurate chronograph. The digital read out is also proper stopwatch format.
The only niggle would be the pushers. Omega could have fitted the ones with the slightly mushroomed tops they used on their stopwatches as they later did on the 'Polaris' Seamaster.
Anyway; a rather special watch. Thank you for sharing the story.
Thanks folks
I have removed the bracelet and am awaiting some straps to try.
Its nice to have it back - sorry for the poor photo, my camera is misbehaving

I do realised of course that the seconds are slightly out as indicated by the atomic G Shock that synced early this morning. I just wasn't quick enough pressing the start button on the Speedmasters reset function!
Lovely watch and very cool !
Here's an interesting 'grandfather of the X-33' link

Glad to see it back Ian. Slight pang of regret on my behalf, but having the other one helps!
The other one mentioned by Dan is where the bracelet came from, the only way I could source the virtually unobtainable end links was to buy a complete watch and bracelet set!
In retrospect I'm not sure it was quite worth the effort and expense as try as I might I just cannot get on with bracelets and this is a watch to wear as opposed to keep as a collectors piece!
In consequence the bracelet will soon be reunited with its original Speedmaster.
I think that one of these might look and feel good

The BC285's Ive tried in divers on the past have been super soft and comfy
I'm also going to try one of these. Its one of the few rally straps Ive spotted that come in a shorter 110/70 size

Nice!
Box and manual look original
Just as well the bracelet wears OK as it would be difficult to fit an alternative I suspect
Do you wear it often?
Well there seems to be growing interest in this kind of vintage LCD so you should be able to move it on OK. I believe that LCD Speedmasters are sought after in Japan so an international eBay listing perhaps if there is no interest here. I have also seen them traded on the Omega forum - which appears to be mainly USA based.
Just looking at eBay and I see that prices are often quite strong for those pieces, for example
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Omega-Lcd-...MAAOSw4GVYQfPB
As regards the 186.004, they don't appear very often - I'm not sure what this one will end up going for. It has its original box (no papers) but from the description is clearly in need of attention. As mentioned previously mine had to go back to Beinne as no one else could service it - at a cost of £550!

Though it might be interesting to include this extract from the Omega forum here
Ive been searching the net and I cant find any pictures of it being worn by a shuttle pilot - I'll keep looking though
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...pssgdqret6.png
Have you noticed the NOT made in Switzerland? ;-)
Ok I'm going to do it. What's the deal with this? Is it the rarity of it that makes it desirable? I can't stand the look of it
A few movement shots from the net

And this is a shot of the other one that I sold to Dan
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...psmm6krlzh.jpg
Searching through the forum it would appear that there are four 186.004 owners on here
Gurmot (Simon)
dickstar1977 (Tom)
Caruso (Dan)
Velorum (me)
As a matter of interest - is there anyone else?
So at least 3 of us have owned multiples - with various pieces passing between us
Ok. So are there different grades of quality for a digital watch. That's a genuine question if it sounds stupid.
It just looks like a digital watch but was made by Omega and is therefore special. Is it built a lot better than others? Don't mean to cause offence by the way.
Well done on getting it serviced.
I think looks best on the NASA strap.
It depends on how one perceives quality. My current cal 1620 LCD Speedmaster runs very accurately at around +/- 1 sec per month and no fancy nuclear clock synchronising, just good quality electronics. That said, the accuracy is not the main attraction for me. I like the looks, the history and the rarity.
No offence by the way.
Steve, it's a fair question. For me the attraction is it's place in history as a piece of high quality cutting edge technology. I also used to have a lovely old Bang & Olufsen TV from the 1980s. It had a wood effect case and almost oval screen, but it was beautifully made including the metal remote control and the sound was fantastic - good enough to fool my cat into thinking there were birds in the room. Obviously the display technology has been surpassed since then, but like the LCD Speedmaster it was fundamentally well engineered and in many ways performed as well as or better than much more modern stuff.
