Protecting clasp against desk diving marks

Anyone do anything inventive for this?

I’ve seen a few products for case back protection, which I have never seen the need for (apart from when using NATO straps, what‘s scratching the caseback??) but not seen anything, or recall any discussion on saving the clasp on bracelets - which seem to take the brunt of any wear

Wearing a different watch/strap/not working at a desk etc is not the answer I am looking for!

I thought about some sort of Teflon spray (if they sell that?). Not got much further with the idea than this! :)

Buy a spare clasp.

Remove the original, store safely, fit new clasp and live the care-free clasp bashing life you deserve.

Or wear, bash, forget, then at service time have it refinished / replaced.

Thin layer of clear nail polish.
I usually don't care but I have heard of people doing the above. Alternatively you can leave the protective sticker on.

Sellotape, should be plenty available in the office.

Why stop there? Better yet: buy a spare watch, remove the original, store safely etc. etc.

Go upholstered and have your desk wrapped in a nice quilted fabric or heavy weight tweed perhaps.

Problem is I work from all over the place, laptop and a grubby bar or coffee-shop table etc.

In a previous thread someone said they cut to size a phone screen protector and that it worked well. I commented at the time that I thought it was a good idea I must try. I didn't get any further than that and have since just accepted any desk diving marks.

hah.. look at him actually in water in his GMT.. is he MAD?

I think anything you do or add to protect the clasp is going to look crap. Leave it and refinish at service.. or bung a mousepad in front of trackpad/mouse to rest arm on.

Buy a 'gamers' mouse mat... They're about 2ft wide and cover the whole desktop in neoprene. No more marks!

Better still, have your man refinish the clasp every evening, after he’s pressed your trousers and shirt for the next day. Sorted.

I've tried duct tape and bubble wrap but I felt like a dick, looked like one too.
Now I just wear out bracelet clasps as easy as I wear out wedding rings.

That looks like it's only got a hundred years or more desk diving left. Better take care

3 m helicopter tape. Buy it off ebay in the shortest length you can.

Same piece has been on my 14060m for 5 years. Just cut a piece appx 1.5 X 1 cm then round off square edges. Can barely be seen, but just provides about 10 microns of depth and clasp is unmarked beneath.

I use helicopter tape on my road and mtb’s so usually have some in the toolbox.

As above. The heli tape I bought from Paragon tapes is still in place after 5yrs on my road bike, I don’t bother with it for my MTB as it’s a Kona Heihei ti, from the days when ti was ti. The same tape keeps my casebacks immune from the dreaded Nato strap burn. Virtually invisible when fitted. http://www.paragontapes.co.uk/products

Might get the clear nail polish out. With each email sent 0.0000001g of 904L crumbles into the air.

On a serious note (well nearly), I think clasps are so simple to refinish I can’t see the point of walking around with sticky tape or some other concoction on them.

I use cellotape. Works brilliantly.

This, I did it for a long time on my Tudor black bay ted clasp and it worked well. Then I stopped and gave into the wabi look.

I ordered some scrap pieces of clear plastic tape which garages use to wrap cars. I just cut it to shape and stuck it onto the back of my watch clasp.

It only cost a couple of quid and unless you look really closely, you don’t know it’s there.

I know some people might think it is OTT, but I think it is worth doing, just to minimise scratches.

My mind is wandering........I wander if Yianni would wrap a watch :unconscious:

Piece of A4 paper, disguised as important notes, held in place by the keyboard on whichever side you wear your watch. The clasp never touches the desk :eagerness:

It's like the good old days when Mr and Mrs Wedge up the road would leave the plastic protector bags on their new 3-piece suite, rendering it completely unusable as a sofa and chairs.

I regard myself as OCD and try to minimise scratches as much as possible, but [a] it's the clasp, and underneath, and (as said above) very easily refinished, and [b] I hate the feeling of leaving any stickers anywhere on the watch, which just feels like you're not wearing it properly and as it was designed to be worn.

And why?
So it’s worth more when you sell it?
Or so you can look forward to that special day when you finally wear it without stickers?

I can see both sides of the sellotape... I don't like clasps too badly scuffed and when they do go beyond what I can cope with, I reach for the garryflex. A couple of minutes and we're off again.

But I buy shiny things and am interested in keeping them somewhat shiny, so if there are clever invisible little things I’ve never heard of, for me and the wider audience to consider, like heli tape (thanks), plus have a laugh about it somewhat during the course of discussion, then the forum is all the richer for it.

What’s good for M&M enterprises will be good for the country.

There's a much simpler solution. Wear your watch with the face on the underside of your wrist and the clasp uppermost. :eagerness:
