I really like Cafe Sydney - just get a good seat at an earlier time, and you can watch the transition over a nice meal and a glass or three of wine.
Botanical Gardens
Taronga Zoo
Ferry to Manley beach for a day out and nice views
Only a couple of hours train to the Blue Mountains.
Bondi to Coogee walk if your up for a trek - 6k ish with great views.
There are loads of independent cafes etc about, some better than others.
Im still stuck in NSW at the minute, but quite away from Sydney - hopefully I’ll be well enough to travel in the next couple of weeks.

Best day out I had was the fish market, loads of fresh fish for sale obviously, but also loads of stalls selling food, fresh oysters, sashimi, stir frys etc. There's picnic tables outside and even a bottle shop (off licence). Munich Brauhaus in The Rocks area does a fantastic pork knuckle with schnitzel, amongst other hearty menu choices. Beer selection is good as well, and the area is interesting to walk around.
I went to the Rocks area we had a great night, even cooked our own steak in a good old pub. I just love Sydney.
The Glenmore Hotel, just across the road from the Bridge Climb, good food and a great view over the Rocks to the Opera House from the rooftop.
The food courts (Dixon House, Harbour Plaza & Sussex Centre) serving Oriental & SE Asian food in Chinatown are just as good as the restaurants.

Chicken Katsu Bento with Miso soup and Salmon Sashimi.
It's a long time since i went (2001) but the revolving restaurant had superb views and great food, plus at the time, very reasonable prices
We also had some great Vietnamese meals including green curries
If your going to Sydney Opera House, the Opera Kitchen is not overly expensive, great views but watch out for the seagulls!

If you like seafood take the ferry to Watson's Bay and visit Doyles.
Still on fish - the Aquarium is one of the best imo.

The bridge climb is a must, the last time we did it was the dusk climb which is great if you like city skylines at night (don't have a drink before you go as they "breathalyse" you before they let you up). Hunter Valley wine tour, Blue Mountains as mentioned, and dinner cruise round the harbour are all good fun. There is the maritime museum at Darling harbour including a destroyer and submarine to walk round in addition to the exhibits hall. My son tells me there is a casino at Darling harbour, but that's more his thing than mine. There are quite a few restaurants round Circular Quay with a view of the bridge and opera house which is nice, we had nice Chinese meal last time we were there (can't remember the name I'm afraid). Pop into the Fortune of War on The Rocks, Sydney's oldest pup, for a pint. It can get quite crowded in the evening like most city centre pubs we found, and it's not that big but we enjoyed it.
Harrys cafe de wheels is on my list to do when we go back in October, let me know how you find it if you visit.
December is a great time to visit, we did NYE 2016/2017 and had a fabulous time.
I have to say that Sydney is one of my favorite cities, but is of course quite expensive as you would expect.

Ferry over to Manly (can't remember exactly how long, 25 minutes?) and go to Hugo's at Manly Wharf right where the ferry docks. Quite pricey but great position, great cocktails, great food. Best tables outside on the boardwalk.
We went to a Phillips Foote, a cook your own steak place in The Rocks which was good & an amazingly affordable Thai in the Surry Hills area, fairly near to Oxford Street, but I can't remember what it was called just that it had a small open air area at the back.
Nobody else seems to have mentioned Bondi Beach, which is worth a look, especially the Icebergs Swimming Club. The Bondi to Bronte coastal walk is good too.
Generally Sydney is just a brilliant place - enjoy.
That’s the place we went to Phillips Foot great Steak. Another vote for Doyle’s although we ate from the takeaway, catch the boat back into the City that’s an awesome ride.

Unagi/Eel yes lovely, but tuna has never really done it for me, going to Hong Kong in January so plenty of Japanese hot & cold meals to have for a great price.
It is 17 years since I was living in Sydney, but one of my favourite local haunts was to eat and Govindas and then watch the film afterwards.
Not sure if the format is the same nowadays, but it was one of my most fondly remembered eating holes.
It is a buffet/cafe run by the Hare Krishna, you pay for a ticket to eat in the cafe/buffet and then the whole restaurant mooches into the neighbouring room (cinema) and lounge about on cushions/bean bags and watch a film with a bottle of wine (you have to take your own wine and that may well have been stopped now). The food was superb, particularly as it was also very reasonable.
Great atmosphere.
With only 6 days there is plenty to see without heading out to the Blue Mountains, but is is well worth the trip.
If you do the bridge climb, do it at night (ie when it is dark) - which is likely to need to be pre-booked.

I remember when I went to the Opera House it was for a Restaurant call Bellagong or similar - but it was very fine eating, in particular had something called "Montego Bay's bug", which was a crustacean with a large juicy tail and only a very small head. Fantastic restaurant with a great view over the Bay, probably closed by now or changed management.Quote:
