Seiko mm300 alternatives?

Hi, I'm planning on buying a mm300 in januari. A watch that I've wanted for the last 3 years, but just to play with fire, are there any alternatives I should look in to in the same price range? I mean... I love it, but am I too one eyed? Am I overlooking some other model?

Conditions are the following:
New price below or equal to the mm300 (EUR 2000 / £1600)
Diver
Not too big (over 44mm) and not too small (under 42mm)
Not titanium.

If the answer is no, and the mm300 has no real rival, then I'm all for that response :)

Both great watches but stay on course and try the MM300 first, it sounds like you need to get it out of your system.
And it's hard to get her out of your mind once you have laid your eyes on that lady...

As much as I like Orient, I find the power reserve & the day near 9 not a good choice. Go for the MM300 :tickled_pink:.

The power reserve indicator adds clutter to the dial. OK if you like that addition but not a clean balanced look which the Seiko offers.

The Seiko has a one piece case ( as far as I am aware ) the Orient I think is a two piece case.

May not matter to you but I would prefer the Seiko case. No logical reason I just like the idea ( if not the actuality ) of a one piece case.

The only one that comes to mind is the TAG Aquaracer calibre 5 automatic

Sinn U1? Great watch But quite different from the MM300

It sure is. Perhaps a little too tooly for me though. I've also been looking at the Sinn UX as a possibility. I just think it's a little too .... quartz for me : /

^^ this. I'm wearing mine now. I came home looking forward to putting on the GS from the other thread but changed my mind. The MM300 is that good.

The MM300 is a beautiful thing...but the OS300 definitely is worth a look, and at a fraction of the price.

A Doxa would be nice, but I've never had a a Doxa, so that feels like a bit of a gamble.

Sbdx003 is very nice, but pretty much impossible to find @ a reasonable price. + I don't really care for gold accents.

Omega, I fear is nothing for me. If it can be found around the corner, then it doesn't matter how good it is.

Orient 300 should wear bigger and heavier than mm300.

I would suggest sumo, costs only 1/3 of MM300 with basically 80% of the features...OR a sumo in MM300's dial and hands..

I would take a Steelfish over the MM300 any day. These are built like a tank, but still look good on the wrist and no cheap rattly Seiko bracelet either.

Which is, of course, why you are going to buy that very exclusive brand that nobody has ever heard of and can only be found in one shop in all of Scandinavia: Seiko...

its pretty clear you are decided on the mm300 and nothing else will do!

Honestly, neither the orient 300, nor the sumo come close to matching the mm300 for build quality and everyday wearability. As an added bonus, the watch is a direct relative of the original 6159 from 1968.

As others have said the MM300 is a fantastic watch & one I think I'll always have in the collection.

A Doxa & a U Series Sinn are also fine watches, but as wells as, not instead of IMHO.

Seriously, its what you want, its a terrific watch and you can shift it easily enough if you change your mind. Go for it!

I've only just noticed the MM300 has no crown guard.
That seems a bit odd for a 'tool watch'.

I'd recommend a Doxa as an alternative.

If you are looking at a Japanese alternative, the alternative is the Orient or Orient Star 300m Diver which is no bad thing. Having owned both, they are two well made Japanese Divers with manual winding and hacking facilities (new Orient variant only) but at slightly different price points.

If you are looking at something non Japanese then there is obviously more choice, but you cannot go wrong with the Orient or Seiko. My choice is the SBDX001.

Pricing downwards I can't think of anything close to the Seiko MM300. Best save your money to get one used

Aye, the brand can be found everywhere. The MM300 cannot, however. That's a significant difference.

Having had a Halios Laguna and been very impressed with the design/quality/timekeeping and overall package I'd throw that in as a wildcard. If you can find one!

There is one on SC right now, so that wouldn't be a problem. I have read and seen (youtube) reviews of it, and I have no doubts it's a great model. I'm sure it will have a place in my watch box at some point.

Whydo you try to find an alternative ?

It would have to be the Sinn U1 for me. After buying several watches online and being disappointed in the flesh, I reckon the U1 is one of the few watches out there I would risk buying blind again. Don't get me wrong the MM300 looks like a nice watch but not special enough for me to make another blind purchase. It just doesn't stand out enough for me.

Not sure as I knew that parts are scare and came from Netherlands..

I second the Breitling Steelfish, a second-hand one in immaculate condition should easily fit in your budget. I am wearing mine today actually (older 42mm version with blue dial). I don't think you will get better bang for your buck in that price bracket.
