Hi
While washing the Freelander 2 today, I noticed that the locking wheel nut is missing from one of the wheels. Now it has either not been replaced when we last had some work done or its since worked loose and disappeared.
Anyway, is it possible to buy just one as a replacement and if so, is there a code or something that tells me which is the right one? Or will I need to go a dealer and buy a whole new set??

Personally, I’d buy a set of four aftermarket ones from eBay or Amazon.
Either that or buy a single non locking nut for a few quid. Alloy wheel theft isn’t as big as it used to be.
Nobody is ever going to nick a set of Freelander 2 wheels, ever.

I haven't seen a car on bricks for many years. Unless its something exotic or very expensive the risk if wheel theft must he very low these days.Quote:

I’d buy a new set, they aren’t that expensive.
They are probably the reason not many alloys are stolen these days, most cars have them.
Buy four normal nuts.
But more importantly, check your other wheel nuts are tight.
You can buy a single nut from a dealer who can look the appropriate codes up off of your VIN.
I would however change all 4 for standard nuts.

Many years ago while working in the garage trade a customer reported having a bad vibration on the steering on his Skoda which had started suddenly that morning. On being checked over it was found that there were only 2 wheel nuts on each wheel and they were loose and not even hand tight! Also the tyres were all illegal being under the 1.6mm limit. When the customer was informed he said that was impossible because all 4 tyres had been replaced only a week ago!
The car was parked in a communal car park outside the block of flats he lived in, and someone had apparently swapped his wheels and tyres with theirs in the night, putting the wheels back on his car just to hold it up enough to get their jack under it!

I had the same a few years ago with an XJ40. We fitted a set of (bloody expensive) metrics on it and the following week, someone exchanged his nice, shiny and new wheels for a manky set with knackered Tyres. He was not impressed...Quote:

Will probably get a replacement set via eBay or similar and replace the lot sometime soon.
