It was a serious comment, I’m guessing most people here don’t just buy a watch to check the time, they buy it because they like how it looks as well, so if I bought a watch I like would rather be able to see it properly than buy one which maybe I don’t like as much but is easier to read with less than perfect vision.
Ive worn glasses for short sightedness since I was about 14, switched to varifocals when I started to struggle to see the dash in the car, had also started taking my glasses off to read which had become rather annoying. If I was only long sighted I’d have laser surgery rather than faffing around with having to have glasses on and off.
Only watch I’ve bought purely for legibility was a Casio with backlight as knew I would need to check it regularly in the early hours when on a trip.
Cant add anything as far as legible watches as my best watch for a quick glance is probably my 2254 but that’s been mentioned a couple of times and that wasn’t why I bought it.
Here are a few I have owned. High contrast seems to be the key. Lens blur effect added

Regardless, my favourite watch would not pass this test as it has applied gold markers and gold hands with a cream dial, as said before, it can be read easily enough. So though important, legibility is not paramount (for me).

This PH500 is super legible I think due to the strong black outlines on the hands.
The only slight visual issue is the bezel pip which can get lost in bright sunlight against outer ring holding the glass. This is not really an issue though IMO

Watching Bond, today:
I think ‘dimmed cinema’ provides a pretty binary legibility assessment!

Breitling Superocean Heritage 2 46mm is pretty legible.

Legibility is my main concern nowadays. I’m really impressed with my A13-A pilot watch, just the slightest glance and you’ve got the time from practically any angle.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9d16674371.jpg
