Depending on the reason you're going to these places, I would definitely recommend visiting Auschwitz/Birkenau and the salt mines in Krakow.
The city itself is lovely from a sight-seeing point of view. More cathedrals and churches than you'll ever see anywhere else.
The salt mines and Auschwitz are both places worth seeing.
Say hello to the dragon in Krakow.

As others have said, Salt Mines and Auschwitz are both must sees in Kraków.
As above, plus Schindlers Walk. If you've seen the film 'Schindler's List' get the guide book to the walk and it will take you places to where it was filmed and terminates at his factory (now a museum) in addition it will give you a great insight into Kracow. Fantastic city.
There's a famous statue of a monkey riding a pig taking a shit in Dresden.
Dresden was really nice and and I'm sure I had a good time there, but that statue is the only distinct thing I remember.
Edit: now that I look it up, the monkey isn't riding the pig. There is also a jester involved.
I can recommend Schloss Eckberg in Dresden for a lovely place to stay.
I believe our own Carlton Browne has also stayed there before.
Use protection.
All depends on what you are going for.
Dresden is very impressive and pretty and the key sights can be done in a long day including some very nice watch shops!
Some nice restaurants and places to stay.
I don’t know Krakow but I have only heard good things!

Make sure and spend some time in the Jewish quarter in Krakow.
Great inexpensive places to eat and drink
Also worth reading a book or 2 about Auschwitch/Birkenau before you go.
Indeed, we've stayed here a couple of times,,

Yes I have. I definitely recommend staying in Dresden Neustadt (In our parlance, the Georgian/Victorian bit) rather than the Altstadt which is a bit too much wall-to-wall coach party for my tastes. You will also get the chance to visit Pfund's Molkerei. I'd also strongly recommend putting aside a half day to spend in the Bundeswehr Museum (although I'll admit to a certain bias as a good friend of mine was an adviser during its creation).
Glashütte is 43 minutes away by train. The town has an excellent, superlative even, museum of watchmaking.

Starka restaurant in Krakow (well, it’s a small room really) does some great food and vodka.
Wodka bar in Krakow is a good spot for a vodka tasting board
Great city, +1 on the Jewish quarter
There’s a nice restaurant in the centre of Krakow called MooMoo, worth a visit and good price.

Krakow also has some amazing botanical gardens, (part of the university if I remember correctly but open to the public). Also just remembered a good pizza place we went to called Pizzatopia

Visited Krakow last year. Fantastic city and friendly people. Lots of history obviously with a couple of majors in schindlers Factory and Auschwitz/birkenau. I found the latter more severe than the former. Open top bus is a good way to see city.
Will go back to do salt mines.
Great to sit in a bar or restaurant in the square and simply people watch and ponder what and how the locals suffered during wwii
Have a great trip and enjoy
