I’ve got some ideas for what paint do to my 1959 Lambretta in and want to do some testing at home with some speed shapes.
Where is best please to get some aerosols mixed up from so I can have a play in my garage before it goes off properly for paint? I know Halfords do mixing but have heard varied reviews.
The colours are as follows:
- Porsche Oak Green Metallic 22L
- Fiat 750 Marron Volciano
Find a trade outlet that specialise in automotive paints, you may gave to drive a few miles to find one but they should be able to mix whatever you ask for. The aerosol cans have better nozzles too, to create a proper fan pattern.
For under £200 you could buy a small compressor and a couple of spray guns, that’ll give a far better finish. Spraying with rattle cans is much harder in my experience than using a proper spray gun.
Thanks for the advice, I only looking to just get an idea of colours (rather than a perfect finish) hence the plan to use cans just to get an idea of the colour contrasts before it goes to a professional to spray properly.
I have used this company several times, quick service and paint match and efficiency of spray cans has been good.

Not wishing to derail the thread, but could you point me to any compressors and spray guns worth looking at? I’ve been thinking of getting a set-up to do a few small jobs recently. Mostly to paint wood.Quote:

Machine Mart have an extensive range, they sell one similar to what I owned 25+ years ago ( 1.5hp, 7.5cfm, 25 litre tank) for not much more than £100. 50 litre tank is better, so is a bigger motor that’ll give a better flow rate, but you pay more. These things are quite noisy too.Quote:

I’ve got an hvlp gun. Very little overspray in a booth with good extraction is a bit different to very little overspray in a home garage full of crap. I painted my track bike once, everything in that garage was green by the time I’d done. If it works for you then great but these days I just do the prep and take it to the paint shop for the actual painting.Quote:

i have a small hobby compressor (originally purchased for airtbrush work ) that i use to spray my bike with ACF50 - it can just about handle a .75 airgun though it would be not good for painting anything at this size.
I’m only going off what he told me and, to be honest, he seems to do most if his spraying outdoors. Obviously the higher the pressure, the more overspray you get and keeping the pressure really low helps a lot.Quote:

I have used these guy's several times for the same reasons you are asking, they are extremely helpful so may be worth a chat with.
The paint they supply really is a cut above the norm and not the usual gnat pee material sold by Halfrauds.

Unfortunately neither of the colours you have listed seem to on their colour finder. They do have an “ ask us “ button.
If its just for a mock up they may also be a touch pricey.
