So, She who is always right wants a new watch to wear everyday and when going out/for best.
Apparently a Lady Datejust 28 is too big and not ‘ladylike’ enough. (I know ffs)
So any ideas please, yellow gold is good, as is rose gold. Movement can be quartz or auto. Prefer a good name brand over ‘jewellery’ pieces’ if possible.
Budget is ‘negotiable’.

Can’t go wrong with an Omega Constellation, great value, variations are many and should be able to get a decent discount from an AD, this was my choice for the other half

Carter Tank, JLC Reverso, DateJust26? Can't comment on how lady like the DJ26 is but loads in ADs and on the jubilee with the fluted very it's very nice. Date not too visible though, being a 26...

I think all gold is going to be the order of the day.
'New' ladies' watches depreciate so quickly and are not easy to sell or PX if a lady gets style weary. Maybe better to consider a s/h lady's watch which might not depreciate so fast. There are a few s/h ladies' watches in Austin Kaye's sale:

I think the small ladies watch you've described needs to have 3 distinctive things about it:
Small but noticeable
A ladies watch rather than unisex
It's as much a piece of jewellery as it is a watch
Only model and brand I can think of that scores 3 out of 3 is Cartier Tank. Range goes from really quite small on leather, through small or medium on bi-metal (steel-gold) to small medium full gold.
Many years ago I went though a similar thing with my wife. She wanted a small watch and I started (as all cheapskates do) with something that was just a bloody good watch. Then moved to Ebel the next birthday and finally hit the jackpot the following year when I thought 'sod it' and got her a Cartier Tank. Cartier wins hands down!!
