Aquanaut and Nautilus have never appealed
How anyone could walk past a vc overseas or Lange on their way to a steel Patek just beats me
I gather the real PP experts consider them second rate.

Probably every model of Panerai - some even have cases that look like silver plastic.
Rolex Daytona - The preserve of Grand Prix drivers and other top sportsmen of the '60s/'70s. Nice to look at, but to wear - pretentious in the extreme.
Rolex Submariner (green face or green bezel) - Not seeing the attraction at all. too 'shouty'
TAGs - Shonky styling and that bracelet design they made their own - shocking.
Thanks - I feel a lot better now. :glee:
At this point, I'd also like to add the Rolex Skydweller. It's supposed to be some sort of achievement, with their most complicated watch to date. I don't get it. The fluted bezel on that thing feels like a poke in my eye.
I was sort of expecting that and was curious to see the reason why.
For me, when I look at it and try to like it - I fail because of the things mentioned in the first post. First impressions without prejudice and looking at the brand - it just looks cheap to my eyes. It might be because there's so many copies of that design. Clearly, there's a lot of people that love it too, I just can't. I think it's safe to say that for me this is the most overly hyped watch.
Imagine how boring it would be if we all liked the same things.
So the top three by a country mile are the Daytona, Aquanaut and Nautilus.
I forgot about snowflake hands, I dislike those as well.
Love to throw that in so the fanboi's can prove the boring conversation point for me :cocksure:
Daytona always come up, they are a good watch but the hype, waiting lists and general douchebaggery that goes with it are ruining the watch.
To play devils advocate, I often convince myself I dont like things I can never imagine being in a position of getting.
The one for me was always the BB. I’ve been a big flipper over the last few years, and several BBs have come and gone. They are great at first but the case then seems a bit too slabby and unrefined. The BB58 is much better though, both the black and blue are very nice watches.
I’m the other way on Speedies, love them. I just wish my FOIS wasn’t being such a lemon at the moment. Back for more work after service for the third time I think...!
There are a few for me, to be honest.
Any Rolex with a fluted bezel - immediate turn off.
Would not, as a matter of principle, wear anything that has a precious stone, or anything that looks like it. Anyone who wears something with the likes of a Swarovski crystal should be batted on the nose with a rolled up newspaper.
Not wild about gold at all, and even two tone is a worry.
I do not like the entire design lexicon of Hublot at all. Ditto the PP Nautilus.
I do like a Daytona, but only in steel, and preferably with a ceramic bezel. The less bling the better.
A mate has a Tag Heuer Monaco 'McQueen' and I've tried really hard to like it and failed. A green Sub too.
I'm entirely unfussed by any GMT and despite it being a genuine tool of a tool watch, a Milgauss leaves me cold. Ditto Explorers and Skydwellers.
That said, I like most Speedmasters, and classic Carrera chronos.
Takes all sorts.
Quite a few which are forum favourites!
- Seamaster; really don't like the look of the bracelet
- Original Speedmaster; love the history, but didn't like the manual wind when I had one. Had to keep taking it off on the train and wind. Ah, those were the days to be on a packed train!
- Aquanaut; agree with an earlier comment, how you could overlook ALS or VC for this is beyond me. Residuals will be a key part of this
- Tag Monaco; just don't get the look
I haven't held a Daytona but I love the look.
For me
Daytona i had a gold one with matching dial
God knows why couldn’t read the time and it was to small
Rolex hulk again owned one sat in watch box when i wore it it was just a green shinny blob with a cyclops blaring out
So those went
Ones i haven’t owned but dislike
As most of you pp don’t get the hype
Omega seamaster hate the shinny bezel and the silly escape valve
Bremont ihave tried to like them but they have more limited editions than dfs have sales
Tag heur above 3k why ?
Grand seiko its just a posh seiko a bit like a ford escort the grand is the xr3i
Blancpain fifty fathoms has the most ugly hands ive ever seen
Iwc reverso why do you need a watch you can spin over its the same shape wear a diffrent watch

To be fair, they're handed out as prizes quite frequently still, so more than a few current drivers will sport a Daytona.
I thought I'd love it with its Motorsports connection, but I found it a very underwhelming watch.
I don't dislike the Sub, but I find it a rather boring watch, probably just too ubequitous and copied to stay special for me.
Is it the DSSD with that ugly internal ring with something like 'really deep Divery stuff' on it? That watch looks like a cheap Invicta to me!

Richard Mille, fantastic engineering but the styling looks terrible to me.
Anything where a number is chopped by a date window or sub-dial. Drives me nuts.
40mm Air King. Never got around the dial which is a mix of printed and applied numerals with barely any lume..

A trip to Baselworld a few years ago was fantastic for getting a better understanding of what each watch brand is really about, and also my own taste preferences.
The big personal disappointment brand-wise was Sinn. I had come close to buying one many times and thought I loved the brand, but in the flesh I found most of their watches too thick, the dials a bit flat/dull (except the diapals) and the blasted case finish just too toolish.
A brand that blew me away for the depth of their dials (it was like they were in 3D while other brands were in 2D) was Grand Seiko. However, the biggest individual watch disappointment of the whole show was the GS Snowflake, and especially the dial. To me it looked like a piece of rice paper and nothing like snow. Also on the GS stand was the "Peacock" which was a special edition that year and stunning.
More generally, I'm not keen on Bauhaus / traditional Germanic style watches - just too austere for me.
Anything in the Rado line up.
Rolex Daytona for me [emoji2961]
Any brand that puts the date at 4 or 4.30...it's like putting a wart on the face of Bella Hadid.
Also any Seiko...just don't get the fuss that they generate with W.I.S.
Pp nautilus just doesn’t do it for me,

longines and Tag brands, any of
Like it seems many others, the Nautilus and Aquanaut - hideous.
Grand Seiko - there always seems to be something jarring on the dial design, especially the power reserve obviously.
G- Shocks, I can't wear a plastic watch.
Would never consider any watch with diamonds/other precious jewels or watches with open heart dials. Also, like many others here, I cannot see the appeal in Daytonas and Omega Speedmasters.
Rolex Sub date & gmt.....
Both feel cold on the wrist and nothing special.

Pretty much everything designed by Gerald Genta.
Rolex Datejust: ugly, basic, dated, don't get it
Oris: want to like them but 100% underwhelming, Aquis is nice enough if a little overdone & I really don't appreciate the bracelet/links, the 65 looks awful to me
Hamilton: don't hate them, but they do precisely nothing for me
Hublot: obviously, just awful. I know the guy who designed the Sang Bleu edition & his tattooing is amazing, just not sure it works on a watch
Sinn 104: love a Sinn, but not this one.
I'm with the OP.... The modern Daytonas... I just don't get the attraction. The horizontally off-centre 3 & 9 sub dials, would drive me nuts, the original Zenith powered versions were much more pleasing on the eye IMO
A
PS. Don't get Panerais either
G-shock (ugly as hell), Panerai Luminors (ugly and bulky), most Seikos (ugly and generally bulky), Omega Speedmaster (unless it's got a Snoopy on it), most Omega Seamasters (ugly), PP Aquanaut (and I'm an owner - too light and didn't bond with it), and so many more brands - too many to list.
Agree on the Grand Seiko. The Diver watches are the best out of the GS watches as Raj pointed out.
On G-shocks - buy one of the full metals ;)
For me snowflake hands, 'mercedes' hands etc. So rule out black bays, subs etc - annoys the hell out of me how much those watches have been destroyed due to the terrible hour hands!
Forgot to mention previously, Panerai - just don't see the appeal.
Audemars Piquet too, just don't speak to me at all.
Cyclops Rolex models do nothing for me. Make the date window bigger if it’s hard to read.
VC overseas is a watch I want to like but can’t seem to.
44mm IWC, PAM, AP’s
I think the thread has stealthily shifted from 'popular watches you don't like' to 'watches you don't like' and therefore gotten a bit diluted. A good nomination has to capture that sense of being the person in the corner thinking, ummm, while the crowd bounces up and down. Not sure Richard Mille, Hublot, and Bremont really qualify - certainly not in terms of popularity on here (which I realise is a niche locale ...).
For me it's the Hulk/Kermit family tree - I cannot comprehend the love for a green watch. Also any Royal Oak, which just looks so awkward on or off the wrist.
Nice point made above about how we convince ourselves that we hate what we can't have, mind - I'm sure I'm guilty of that in regard to the Daytona.
I’m also not keen on the aquanaut / nautilus. I don’t think it’s just because I can’t get them as by contrast, I’m a huge fan of the Royal Oak (jumbo three hander).
In truth I struggle with most Rolex watches, I know they’re as good an example of a well-made watch as you can find, but they’re just so...obvious. They’re a bit like a German saloon, no one can argue that they’re brilliant, but their ubiquity and status water down any expression of personal taste, reflecting instead the ‘correct’ choice of product. Not saying that those who own them lack taste, simply that those who do not have a personal taste in watches will gravitate towards them by default, and that makes them less attractive to me.
Of course, the Milgaus 1019 is the exception to the above. That is the ultimate in understated class.
Pretty much every Omega, Speedy and Seamaster included. Slight exception for the white Seamaster 300 on black rubber, but even then it has a useless bezel, hollow hands, stupid manual HEV and a date at 6. Bracelet models have a decent clasp but it's the logo on the clasp is way too shouty and the bracelet itself has way too much going on for a dive watch.
Rolex - most designs reek of "can't be bothered, don't need to try". Execution is pretty decent.
Speedy - too-easily damaged for my liking - frail, poor WR. It's not 1969 any more, albeit that seems to be what the market wants.
PP Aquanaut - looks like a Timex and a hand grenade had anal in the toilets of a disco.
Seiko - vast, confusing ranges with random overlaps everywhere. Safe, predictable designs, faintly rewarming catalogue fossils. Worthwhile updates take an eternity (Wow! Look! Hacking movements!). Forgivable when they were cheap, but they're not any more.
Grand Seiko - shininess is next to godliness. *YAWN*
Don't take these opinions personally: I like things you hate, too. It's just Stuff.
Speedy. While I love the design, when handled, the finishing doesn’t impress me in any way.

Omega Seamaster, especially that bracelet.
Most Panerai
The big bulky AP offerings
Grand Seiko, although do appreciate the workmanship they are just not for me.
Also not the biggest fan of Breitling
Patek Nautilus, I have tried one on and was disappointed with the feel of it. I preferred the aquanaut.
Generally anything 44m+
On the other hand I am in contrast to a lot above and appreciate Rolex. Most of them work for me. GMT or Sub I could happily live with as a one watch. Daytona...ignoring the hype and just putting one on the wrist some years ago, I found it comfortable and wearable. Hence can understand why it is popular. But agree you could argue I have no taste and I am boring. You may be right!
Just about all Panerais, G-Shocks, Omega Seamaster (I like the PO though), Rolex Skydweller.
Tudor snowflake hands.
Anything with a hair-puller bracelet or a sharp pointy case that you can feel when you're wearing it (yes Pelagos, I'm talking about you...)
Cyclops
Skeleton dials
Display backs
and
Bronze watches with forced patina. Natural looks fine (okay I admit to having one) but the crusty bottom of the ocean thing I just don't get. People think bronze watches smell, they don't, unless you've left them in a bag with a crushed boiled egg for a few hours. WTF.
Any Rolex with a maxi case
I have known many Daytona owners in my time and not one of them had a clue about watches.
Patek are for wealthy people who find Rolex “crass”.
Panerai above 42mm.
Any watch below 40mm.
The Completely green Hulk - how do you ever match that to what you are wearing [emoji1787]
Hublot = just no.
Seamaster - the bracelet should be simpler. Looks better on rubber.
Speedmaster on a bracelet. Looks better on NATO/black leather.
All Speedmaster SE except ST1. Dial and brushed case make it different enough for me but no to the OEM leather it comes with.
All Tudor - apart from Pelagos as I own one [emoji3]
Any watch worn loose, like a bracelet.
And agree re: cyclops/date obscuring number etc etc.
MB hands
Skeleton hands
Open hearts
:puke:
Tudor Black bay - but not because of the hands. I really rather like those.
Spent ages lusting after one, especially admiring the rose engraved crown, but when I eventually got one everything about it just felt wrongly proportioned. I have since tried a black bay GMT and that had the same result. I keep looking at the Heritage Chrono, but I fear if I do end up with one the result will be the same.
I know people love them, but for some reason I just don’t get them.
Would also add - anything over 42mm.
I just don’t understand the appeal. And dare I say it, especially on small people. There was a chap at the football club where my son used to play, can’t have been more than 5’ft 6” and 8 stone wet through. He wore a very loose fitting Breitling of some kind which must have been 44-46mm. Fair play to him, he obviously loved that watch and it must have cost a fair few quid, it just sort of looked like he was a child trying on a grown ups jacket.

Forgot one
Probably the most hideous watch ever made
They should all be crushed and recycled as door stops
I give you the rolex yachtmaster 2
Even writing it makes me shudder

Did someone mention sub dials chopping numbers in half? Definitely not for me, regardless of brand or model. The same is true of open (multiple) date windows, as on some otherwise very nice IWCs.
Agree re Daytona.
Zenith are not mentioned at all.. either not popular at all, or it is universally loved. Or this thread is pointless.
