I would have still aspired to owning one but that was half of the fun.
In the end the rolex i bought was not the one i really wanted (a deepsea) so i still found myself hankering after a different rolex. I only managed to buy that one due to a PPI refund and i still needed to trade the explorer. Now i have it i love it and it is a genuine keeper. By some distance my fave rolex.
So for me the rolex was a product of good fortune and the way i prioritise the money i spend.
A lot of my mates who returned from working away with me put their saved cash into their houses or bought cars, one paid for his wedding and 2 of them spunked it on a gucci holiday.
I dont owe anything on my cars, i dont drink a lot (well i do but not often!) and my child doesnt seem as expensive as people warned. My wife makes decent money too and we maintain financial independence. Also, i dont go on expensive foreign holidays (i spend enough time away from home with work and hate travelling) i tend to go on UK cottage holidays.
Many of my friends are fascinated by my collection of watches, when we meet they are interested to see what i am wearing but once the intitial fascination(ish) ends, i get ripped for wasting money and it is all good fun.
What i would say is that none of this really matters. I would trade it all to have had a different year: my son was born over 3 months early and had horrendous, terrifying odds at the start. Then at 6 months old he was diagnosed with Leukemia. He got home about a month ago and is doing amazingly well.
OP, you have a very nice collection which demonstrates your tastes clearly. i hope you enjoy them.
