I was teasing a bit.
But while he says other teams have had issues, the fact is that the 3 other boats managed to race. He may be frustrated but it doesn't come out well. More like, winging (pom).

I think you could expect the same from any team with issues not of their own making. How it is perceived depends upon the observer. Did you catch this exchange:
Peter Burling of Emirates Team New Zealand addressed Ainslie, saying: “There’s a feeling that we’re somehow withholding information, but if you need to know anything just sing out.”
Ainslie shot back: “Can you send us the software of how it’s designed and we can work out how it works.”
Should we call them cocky and whinging, respectively?
Regrettably it does look like the Ineos boat isn't going to get anywhere near the opposition. It's fast enough once on the foil but has issues getting up out of the water and performing turns. I'd like to think they'll improve but cannot envisage it being enough to make them truly competitive. Oh well...
Even TNZ has had the odd issue to give a hope that either Prada or the US will be able to give them a race in AC36 but they'll need to improve. Let's hope that the Prada Cup gives them that chance.
Too true...https://youtu.be/LPknuaDSrhI?t=294
Are they racing with Britannia or with Britannia II?
First race of the day gets shortened from 6 legs to 4 because of lack of wind. Ineos are lapped but TNZ can't reach the finish in time as they too are now in displacement mode. The race is abandoned and will be re-run. One way to look at it is that Ineos get another bite at the cherry. The other is that they can be humiliated all over again. Heaven knows what the spectators make of it.

Update And that was it. No races completed and racing over for 2020. Time to reset for 15 January.
Abysmal performance by Ineos. The biggest issue is likley to be they've used up all of their allocation of six foil designs so there's nothing they can do to change them.
These boats are so fast! Incredible speed

They must be epic, the pace downwind in a breeze is incredible
This image is me sailing the Vampyre at perhaps 25 knots, cant imaging almost doubling that.

Another week and it will be time for the Prada Cup. See PC pairings.
Word is Ineos have made huge gains.
ETNZ capsize in practice race?
Word is they had some sort of technical failure and laid it down deliberately to limit damage ...
Has anyone found a reliable source for wind data on the course or nearby, please? I've been looking online and haven't found anything usable as yet.
Monday, the first day of practice racing in the new year, seems to have had stronger winds than those for the Christmas Cup. That may go some way towards Ineos being able to stay on the foil but other than that we'll have to wait to see quite how much they have (or have not) improved.
Update: The best that I have found is Janter Electronics in the Beachlands suburb of Auckland:
- https://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/observa...zd9pyyb96sptuh (this site has a useful 'graph' function)
Being at 21 m elevation it will give an idea of the general conditions but there are various islands around the harbour that will affect the wind, hence the organisers have several different areas where they can lay the course according to the conditions on the day.
Impressive loss of control!

Have you ever heard of Sean Clarkson?
Does anyone know why the practice racing is referred to as 'Rialto', please?
I hadn't heard that before until I started searching to find out if there are any more sessions due before the Prada Cup. Apparently there are not and the news is not all bad for Ineos Team UK (just don't get too excited before the racing gets serious). Furthermore at the starts and when no boat is outright the faster then the racing is getting to be more like traditional match racing. If the winds stick around then it should be something worth watching.

What a beauty! Seems to be in great shape. Super fast!

What a great couple of races for Britannia. Whatever was wrong with that boat, it's sorted now.
The American commentators were a bit dumbfounded in the first race. [emoji16]

Wow, what a turnaround. Decent wind conditions though so will be interesting to see if INEOS still have issues in lighter breeze. Fingers crossed they don't.

Well, that was a very unexpected and welcome turnaround. Go SBA.
The next big question: https://youtu.be/VuYgyQDxYvU?t=429.
After the earlier races that was blooming fantastic - they hardly put a foot wrong and the Americans and Italians must be wondering what just happened.
Well done to Sir Ben and the team - let's hope they can do it in lighter winds as well.

Course options with a lighter breeze:
Regatta Director Iain Murray has advised that racing will be held on either Course C of D race areas today.
The breeze is expected to come in later than the 3.12pm start schedule and will be from an average of 230 degrees - or SSW.
That is much the same direction as yesterday, but a lighter breeze is expected. The two weather models used by the Regatta Director show different breeze behaviour - hence the two Course options.
Currently, just before noon, in Auckland the breeze is multi directional and light. However on the west coast at Manukau a breeze is building and is now from 225 degrees averaging 12kts - gusting 17kts.Outside the air temperature is feels hot, which will encourage the cooling breeze from Auckland's West Coast which borders on the Tasman Sea.
Our expectation (maybe not shared by the Regatta Director) is that this breeze will extend across the race area. Racing may not get under way by 3.15pm, but should do after 4.00pm.
Two races are due to be sailed - and if there are delays then the Regatta Director is not allowed to start a race after 6.00pm.
The first race is Luna Rossa (ITA) vs American Magic (USA) starting at 3.15pm NZDT
The second race is American Magic vs INEOS Team UK (GBR) starting at 4.15pm NZDT
...
The second race could well suit Ineos batter as the wind may build up a bit in the extra hour.
Edit and update It's neither C nor D...it's a new course in between the two called C/D.
ICYMI...Race Data Dashboard link...with wind speeds from the gate buoys.
Update: Rumour of a big breeze for Sunday. Figure mentioned was 20 kt from the North as opposed to the SW winds of the first two days. That said I cannot see it on any of the mainstream forecasts...so who knows?
Tense but tedious racing last night, another great win for Team UK.
Could not be better. Barker very down beat.
Assuming a team is good enough to win the Prada Challenger Cup, what are the best tactics? Do they want to win the round robins and go straight to the final or would they prefer to come 2nd/3rd and get at least four more races under their belt to practice race strategies?
A purely hypothetical question at this point, but AC racing is known for its complexity.
Winning the RR gives a window for further development so has to be an advantage.
After today's races, this from one of the commentators: "I'm a little gobsmacked, we thought this was going to be dramatic racing but...".
A chap who lives next door to my mother in law son is in NZ filming this! He is a fully qualified drone pilot but for this race they want water based shots. He travels all over the world filming events but sailing is his preference as he is also a qualified skipper. Living the dream.
I have been following the Vendee through the Sea Wolves you tube channel. Where is the best place to view follow the AC highlights please

Unbelievable days racing.
Real shame for the USA, I’d hate to be the guy responsible for releasing the runner.
Hard to see the USA recovering from this.

It looks that a wind gust got them; according to a Flemish vlog (Clubracer.be), the boat tried to bear away after rounding the portside gate buoy, but the backstay wouldn't adjust (loose), therefore they were unable to ease the mainsail. Note the yellow buoys at the bow. The boat must have scooped up a lot of water (or there's something wrong)
What a race. It’s getting more and more interesting. Wow
