I am off to London for a couple of days and am looking for some grub recommendations. Nothing too fancy gastropub, pizza, european would fit the bill.
Staying in Covent Garden, am at the National Gallery Sunday for the Monet Exhibition so looking for something close in the evening.
Then Tower of London on Monday so something around there for a late afternoon rest stop before travelling home.

I always like to a trip to the Guinea Butt, around Mayfair from memory good selection of food and beers and great steaks.
Alternatively, Flat Iron in Covent Garden is ok and much cheaper but does get very busy. Enjoy your trip!

I'm afraid that it's going to be a bit random if you don't narrow down your choice of cuisine and budget. The locality you've mentioned is pretty wide and there are plenty of pubs, eateries, trattoria (etc), restaurants and other establishments on offer. I see that you're pretty accepting..."gastropub, pizza, european"...and I might suggest Belgo if you're into Belgian beer or several fairly usual British style pubs with decent food, but...:smile-new:

I would look at the pre theatre menus at some of the nice places around Covent Garden. Can get great food for the price of a meal in a more “normal” restaurant and don’t have to sit for hours! Also plenty of time for evening activities even if you aren’t going to a show. Went to Joel Robuchon last week and there are plenty of others

On a budget hawksmoor in seven dials do a good value set menu. Plenty of pop up stalls along the south bank by festival hall if weather is nice.
