    Noblesse LP pawnbroker Edinburgh

Anyone had dealings with Noblesse LP pawnbroker in Edinburgh ?

Assuming it has a bricks and mortar presence, anyone visited their office in Edinburgh ?

Whereabouts is it based? The only pawnbroker I'm aware of (other than Cash Generator/Cash Converter) is based at the corner of Queen Street and Frederick Street. I think it's called Duncanson and Edwards. I've bought a couple of watches there.

Never heard of them. Do they have a website, are they NPA members and do they appear to be authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority?

In existence for less than a year. I'd be cautious.

    Did you mean Chrono24?

This looks like them : https://www.chrono24.co.uk/search/in...&dosearch=true

    They refer to their "watch-pawnshop."

I will be checking the FCA Register and NPA register on Monday as one needs now to pass some massive regulatory hurdles before one can trade as / call oneself a pawnbroker.

Personally.......wouldn't touch, pending some much greater reassurance.

Edited to add : mobile telephone numbers and an address shared with many other businesses...

Just to point out that the phone numbers given have the +41 prefix - Switzerland.

Their prices seem 'keen' particularly for PM Daytonas and VC Overseas Chrono on Chrono24.

Anyone seen 'more affordable' elsewhere for the above ?

A lot of companies popping up with serviced offices, with some indulging in less than savoury business practices. Caveat emptor

I always worry when I see 'Suite' in a business address. In my mind it smacks of being rather temporary, and a little bit untraceable once the suite is vacated.

As already said in #9, the country code is for Switzerland. The 79 means it's a mobile number on the Swisscom network.

I was looking at that VC weeks ago but I couldn't find anything on the business, despite living in Edinburgh.

    It's a 'no' from me...

    Suite 2, St Vincent St?

It's around 5min drive from me, but I'm not searching the whole street for "Suite 2", even one as small as St Vincent, which is mainly residential. The pub on the corner is serves a good pint though.

Edit: Erm wow. Take a look at how many companies are registered at that Suite 2, 5 St Vincent St:

Are they related to this outfit or just a 'soundy likey' ?

Did you notice this company's outlets are all in Ukraine? Probably not connected.

I wouldn't be digging any further anyway.

    Noblesse LP pawnbroker Edinburgh

I saw a couple of listings on Chrono24 and did a couple of checks, limited company with other companies as shareholders, shareholding companies with more companies as shareholdings and coming out of Lithuania and some other random place.. all put me off even looking further.
As they say if it's too good to be true...

Registering at companies house means nothing as they operate on "Good faith" and no checks are made. You can pretty much open a company at any address regardless of if you actually own the building or not.

There are firms that provide an address (which is a legal requirement for a limited company) as a service to virtual companies. It seems to cost a few to a few hundred squids per annum. Sounds like there's a company at that address doing just that.

If anyone still cares about dealing with this company, I can call them during working hours and report back. (My calls to the Swisscom mobile network are free.)

I sent an enquiry today, noting that they were a "watch - pawnshop" in Edinburgh, asking what they might lend against my Rolex GMT BLNR and what I would need to bring in if I wanted to pawn it.

Their reply (strangely, received at 23:00 UK time....) ?

    "Not interesting, thx"

    This smells of complete bull****.

This claiming to be UK based seems to be rife. Ebay is littered with so called UK sellers that turn out to be located anywhere but.

    Dog with bone...

The Chief Executive of the National Pawnbrokers Association has now confirmed what I suspected. Noblesse LP is neither one of our members nor even a pawnbroking business of which we are aware.

A search of the Financial Conduct Authority "Financial Serviced Register" finds nothing if one searches for "Noblesse," while a search of their postcode (where so many businesses are registered) equally seems not to find a match.

It would not be legal to trade as a pawnbroker in the U.K. without authorisation from the FCA, which should result in a business appearing on the Register.

Even with authorisation, it is an FCA threshold condition that the "mind and management" of a consumer credit provider (i.e. its directors and compliance function) should be based in the U.K, rather than (by way of example) Switzerland.

A Limited Partnership with the name of Noblesse LP was set up in Scotland on 1st November 2016 but I have not yet been able to find any principals listed, nor "Nature of Business." The address provided seems to be one where many businesses are registered.

    Hmmmmmm......

Edited to add message just sent via Chrono24 listing :

    "Dear Sirs,
You claim to be a "watch-pawnshop" in Edinburgh. It is illegal to trade as a pawnbroker in the U.K. without being authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. There is no "Noblesse LP" on their Financial Services Register, which suggests that you may not have such authorisation. Indeed, the National Pawnbrokers Association has never heard of you. Would you please confirm whether you have given any pawnbroking loans already or are offering such loans to your customers? If so, what is your FCA FRN? If you have / are not, would you please advise why you describe yourselves as a "watch-pawnshop?"
The "mind and management" of any UK consumer credit provider must be based in the U.K. Would you please advise who are the principals of the business and where they are based?
    Thankyou,
    Haywood Milton."

Let us see how our subject responds and if the FCA Register is incorrect....
