It's a cracking bit of kit. I've not touched my carbon road bike for months now as this does everything I need. I've just got back from 3 weeks in France and did loads of on and off road riding, even keeping up with friends on full suspension mountain bikes.

Will get a look at local shop to see if they have one i can demo, sounds ideal for when im not on the hardtail or full suss

Nothing exotic but I got this just over a week ago. S6L with wide ratio gearing.

I used to cycle (conventional road bike) to my station take the train, then tube Waterloo to Kings Cross.

Riding the Brompton is much more fun than the tube, especially in decent weather. It's also better for my fitness.

Which front luggage did you go for?

    C Bag.

Not strictly recommended with the S bars as the cables and the bag do rub a bit, but the steering is unaffected.

had to ride one of these this week - as my daily got nicked from my garage monday night when I was at work on the late shift... (must have been worth about <£100 in parts, bald tyres, sticky calipers, seized front forks...seized seatpost, clicking bottom bracket)

So going to go for a Cyclo-cross this winter... can't wait to put some proper rain/mudguards on too....
and get my old 90s mountainbike out of storage I was keeping for my son for the meantime and by the time its ship shape he'll be big enough to ride it. (step up from his 24" wheel jump bike)

Thanks - I've always wondered if the advice about luggage and S bars was just Brompton covering their @rse. I have the original bars as that was all that was available when I bought it; I have a secret hankering to fit a shorter head tube and a set of bullhorns but I don't want to compromise my luggage options.

10% off at Chain Reaction Cycles as well.

    Anyone use an ISM?

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/i...uestid=1387423

The saddle on my Boardman is your classic 'nose' type, and not comfy!
Was thinking about trying one these ISM's , like the Breakaway for instance. NOt cheap though..

I did the 100 mile Cornwall Coast to Clay Sportive on Sunday. It was a great event with the best signage of any event I've ever done. Those hills though... ! http://www.cornwallcoastandclay.co.uk/

Luckily the weather was great on the day as I couldn’t do 111 miles and 9000 ft of climbing in the rain.

Upgraded the Mavic wheels on my Rose to Hunt carbon ones. Huge difference in performance and helped me on my ride from London to Paris recently.

Nice to see another Rose here, mine's a Pro SL3000. I also swapped the Mavics that came on it, for a pair of Campag Zondas.

Purchased this Trek Emonda SL5 a couple of weeks ago as I am getting more into roads now. I did 85k on it last Sunday and have to say it was a dream, so responsive I was able to keep up with my brother in law for once. I did wonder if it was a bit late to get back into the road scene as I am now 62, but no I have fallen in love with road cycling all over again. I am looking forward to many more miles, on a great bike.

  29. #1329
Enjoy, nothing like a good road ride to lift your spirits.
Please tell me you bought some new Lycra too? Nothing worse than seeing seasoned road riders wearing 20year old baggy and worn Lycra!

Will you get guards or a winter bike?

New Santini bibs, Bontrager shoes and a couple of light winter jerseys. I do about 60 miles most weeks on my hybrid mostly canal towpaths and have done all my life so no stranger to cycling, just wanted to get back into roads. I know what you mean re gear.

Got a ass saver on the back, but will not go out on it in the rain. I will get some new wheels for the Summer and just keep the stock ones for Winter.

Life's too short, put some Race Guards on with the winter wheels and get out in the rain. You don't get wet, you feel the rain . . .

    VERY nice, Andy!

I notice the quite functional front and rear mud flaps that must come in handy for commuting. Do you experience any 'spray' from the exposed chain?

Anyone ride a Boardman full suspension?

Looking at getting a used 2017 model. People seem to buy them and not use them, then flog them for about £650!

Just wondered if they were as good as the reviews say....

I’ve been thinking about changing the pretty basic mavic wheels that came on a synapse I bought last summer and a set of Hunt disc wheels look pretty appealing at a decent weight. I come from a mtb background so have a soft spot for Hope hubs and their customary buzz, forgive me a stupid question but is your Hunt rear hub particularly vocal?

A mate of mine bought one recently, 1k new and he paid £600 s/h for it. It seems that people with no interest in cycling are buying them on the ride to work scheme and immediately selling them rather than taking out a payday loan or whatever. My mates one was unridden and still had a loose unadjusted headset that the Halfords wrench monkey had missed. It was also creaking badly so rather than taking it back to Halfords I offered to check it over and discovered the two shock mounts were devoid of grease.

It's a great bike for the money and you'll struggle to find anything better at the price if you're looking for nearly new, but it is quite a lump of a thing at 34lbs with pedals, saddlebag and pump etc attached. Matey uses his for road and gentle xc so the 130/140 travel is overkill but it does make for a comfortable ride.

That’s more a work of art than a bike, beautiful mate. For clarity does your rear hub have a bit personality or more strong silent type?

I had to buy way too much new stuff.
Absolutely nothing was usable anymore when I bought the road bike.
It is disgusting for the wallet how much different gear you cannot get around of. Nor can you skimp on reasonable quality as cycling is quite hard on the clothing.

My new commuter: a bike by Dutch brand RIH (pronounced as 'reed' without the 'd'). RIH has two workshops: one in Amsterdam for the high end, very exclusive, made to order, bespoke hand-built bikes. All Dutch Olympic track cyclists ride a RIH (even when there's a sponsor's decal on the frame!). RIH prefers Campagnolo, btw! A sort of temple of bike-building.

In the South of the Netherlands, RIH has a larger shop where they produce commuter-bike in low volumes. Mostly pre-designed and built with off-the-shelf parts. Call it 'pret à porter'. My commuter is one of their mid-range bikes. Alloy frame, seamless welded, hand-built with Magura brakes and the obvious Shimano gears.

That's very nice but I think I must say I prefer the classic steel lightweight frames from the Amsterdam shop. As a matter of interest, do they make their own aluminium frames or are they imported from the likes of Taiwan.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

Great to see that built back up... It's a really stunning bike. And I'm amazed to say I've stuck to my one bike for all seasons policy!

Just made some adjustments for Spring... now it looks like it has actually arrived.

Great colour! I had a Concorde road bike with these colours in the 90s. A colour that never goes out of fashion.

Love the background as well! Parts washer etc. Having said that, my wife would kill me if she found out that the laundry is being washed within arm's reach from a parts washer...

And oh, from 3PM on, it's game on, on Belgium TV: the 3 days of the Panne; a 3 days tour in the westernmost part of Flanders (hoping for rain, wind - for the real 'Flandriens')

My first foray into the world of road cycling, I have bought this Ribble Carbon Sportive bike off a friend, apparently it’s quite a good bike so he tells me; my naivety knows no bounds.

Well, after writing off last year due to a gammy knee, and after a few weeks building up on this . . .

. . . I'm off out on this shortly for an hour to see how the knee feels . . .

. . . and hopefully back to long Sunday rides and seaside coffee and cake on 7.4kg of lovliness . . .

Nice, how did it go? It's been better weather for it here.

Made a deposit payment on a Brompton today, just waiting for the cycle to work voucher to come through so I can pick it up. The delay is frustrating! I bagged myself a 2018 M6L in raw lacquer which is a beautiful finish. The welds looks gorgeous. Can't wait to pick it up!

I'm pleased to say the knee fared ok, my almost 61yr old lungs didn't like it though!
