Thanks,

We've seen a few slip through the net recently and I'm being bombarded with new registrations from Ukraine, Russia and neighbouring countries. It took me almost an hour to check all the new registrations this morning and I had to delete all but 6 of them. I don't have the time to do this every day so the forum is closed to new registrations until further notice.

Baton down the Hatches .!
Eddie,
Do you have the facility to make the forum invite only? That should help police new arrivals. Just an idea that could help.
Not too bad that idea....Originally Posted by xdonolix

So how will you combat the huge influx of new registrations? will it be a case of just closing the forum registration for a few days until they move to a new site (once they realise they cannot register anymore)
Is there not a security device they can put on to stop these types of registrations? like an auto close for accounts with 0 posts after so many days?
Thanks,
Andrew
Blimey, I just got in in time. Thanks!

WELL DONE THAT MAN, there's enough of them taking over that well know auction site, Ukranians flooding the market with so called military watches, and countless amounts of shoddy refurbished crap from asian/indian nations, last thing we need is that sort of rubbish appearing in SC....Mark

I jointly moderate a relatively low traffic kit-car forum. We sporadically get a whole load of gmail account registration attempts - maybe 20-30 at a time. Because we ask new registrants to give us a few words about themselves before they are approved, it is very easy to sort the wheat from the chaff.
You have my sympathy Eddie, with a forum with this volume of traffic.
Pete
if you need any security advice Eddie give me shout on PM.
Good move IMO
just what do all the Russians/Ukrainians/etc. want here?
To give us lovely some lovely new virus, peddle porn, and foist p/w shoved into watch cases, with KM sctatched on them, if you go by their ebay behaviour.
I apologise to any genuine ones who just want to play nicely.
That sounds good; on here I feel we 'warm' to anyone who gives a good account of themselves in their initial posting.Originally Posted by ptcoll

Good idea. How about 200 words on why you want to stay? :D It might weed out those who can't be bothered to spell correctly. :DOriginally Posted by raysablade
Out of interest, how many of us are there - anyone know (clearly Eddie would, but sounds like he's got his hands full) ?

Only joking, I'm not a wizzzzzkid, but maybe the stop on new registrations for some time will steer them in another direction.

Are you wondering why you can't yet start a thread or send a private mesage? We have an anti-spam system for new members known as the nursery. You get full permissions once you have been on the site for 48 hours AND posted 5 times in existing threads.
It may be a rule but it's probably also a feature of the software, which this forum software doesn't have. I don't propose monitoring and counting all new user posts. :wink:Originally Posted by FHKJ
