    All purpose pans - sorted

Following on from the all purpose knife thread...

What kitchens pans should I buy - material and brand?

Can't cook to save my life and have zilch interest in it but that doesn't mean to say I need to use the cheapest Tesco pan set there is, which I have been doing for the last 5 years.

Nothing too expensive but as good quality as possible if that isn't contradictory.

    P.S. serious thread

I think your choice my be linked to the type of Hob you are cooking on (Gas, Electric, Induction etc)

I have an induction hob and have used Le Creuset 3ply S/S for the last 8 years and been happy with the Saucepans, as for the frying pans I think they are terrible and warp very easily

I use a Le Creuset Toughened Non Stick stir fry pan and that is excellent and a cast iron skillit to cook steaks in

Budget wise I've built my set up over the years through sales and EBay to try and keep the cost down

Ninjas new range is fairly robust at a decent price point .
I’ve picked up one of their frying pans and it’s very good .

Have a look at the ProCook website.
I’ve got a few bits from them and the quality has always been great for the money.

In terms of materials, I always go for stainless steel.

Big fan of Scanpan, all my non cast iron is from them, saucepans, wok, casserole dishes and sauce pan. The collection keeps growing.

This is a great starter pack. If you want stainless vs non stick there are other ranges available.

Had mine a few years and still as good as day 1. Used across both gas and induction.

Thanks for all the input so far. I'm amazed at how much they can cost.

So far I think it would be Pro-Cook for my meagre talent and interest.

I don't know what is best, but what I have learned is to pay attention to the base and the handle.

The base is where the flame hits so should be thick and robust, and the handle will tale the most punishment.

When I moved I with my girlfriend (now wife) we bought some Le Vrai Gourment pans and have used them for 30 years and they still look and feel like new.

They have a very thick 1/4 inch copper lined bottom and what appears riveted and welded handle.

Big fan of buying once, and not buying cheap and buying twice for the stuff that matters.

I am sure the pans will outlive us.

Procook stainless steel saucepans are great. Le cresuet non-stick delaminated on me and I'll not buy those again, I'll use their cast casserole pots though. Lodge do good cast iron frying pans. For non stick frying pans I tend to budget about £60 max and see what gets the best reviews for the size you want on amazon.

What Dave said! We have the Pro-Cook stainless elite kit, they are not cheap but they last forever and are perfect on induction jobs.

I grabbed my mother's pots and pans when she passed. A mix of everything. Added some of my own

Non stick. Stick. Little hard margarine or a spray of Pam and good to go.

Last large pan was The Rock

Don't own a cast iron pan or anything Le Creuset. Was in the store last month. Nice, but pricey

I still keep reading this thread title as 'All purpose pants'

The answer BTW is the Le Creuset three-ply stainless saucepans. I have Le Creuset non-stick saucepans and frying pans too and as long as you don't heat them over halfway on your dial, let them cool down before washing and only use a sponge (they are after all non-stick, soak for a couple of minutes if anything stubborn won't come off) they will last perfectly. For frying pans/wok/skillett I use Netherton Foundry, including a 14" frying pan for fryups. I also have a De Buyer frying pan, as recommended on here, but I'm struggling to work out what it does that the carbon steel Netherton pans don't already do remarkably well.

Incidentally - and I appreciate I've gone off topic here - these are great for cooking meat:

We’ve had Le Creuset triple ply Stainless steel for around 12 years and they have been fine on bith gas and now induction
