Strong start by England but Christ Farrell is annoying. Another talkback and the ref will penalize him

Well, that was unexpected. Long way to go but a genuinely decent first half from England

light years from the 2 wonderful running games of last week but you do what you're good at and turn it into a war of attrition.

South Africa kicking is club level tonight. English forwards winning the game for them.

    BREAKING NEWS

15 real international standard rugby players steal England's kit hamper and are believed to be masquerading as the usually abysmal bunch.

South Africa look all at sea, it’s all over their faces that they’re potentially on the way out.

Honestly not taking anything away from the great physical play of England but this is the worst performance I’ve seen from a world number 1. They are making so many unforced errors and the kicking has been brutal. I don’t see them beating England - they look toothless

Well exciting end; tough luck on England, but still defied all expectations.

Well, what an exciting game at the end. SA noses in front at the end, feel for the England players.

Never looked like happening. I’d say it was a choke from England tbh. Boks were awful. Sad to see pushing and shoving after game over.

Gutted. Thought England deserved it on the night, but it probably leaves a better quality final on offer next week.

Terrible SA performance but still enough to win in the end.

It’s a shame that last weekend’s Paris matches weren’t the semis and we had to endure this dip in quality, but now to the final the competition deserves.

Choke? I don't think so. More that Genge and Sinckler didn't have enough at scrum time.

Honestly don't think England could have done any more and thought they were harshly penalised last 20 in the scrums.

    Best result for rugby.

The final will be better game for RSA winning.

England dragged the RSA to their level. Wasn’t a great game at all with the excitement generated simply by the close margin in score lines throughout.

Roll on next week to get back to exciting rugby.

SA are going to need to come up with a similar game plan to 4 years ago, where they took apart England, to overcome NZ who seem to have come good at the right time.

Should be a good game hopefully, the two sides being no strangers to each other due to the Rugby Championship.

England need to stuff the Argentinians, thank you please!

Always makes me laugh the whole “dragged down to their level” comment, which shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the game. If you can’t appreciate the fight on display for 60 minutes against the world champions then you’re no rugby fan.

I’d say it’s accurate. Tonight was ugly attritional and frankly horrible to watch as a spectacle. I would honestly expect SA v NZ to be a better game to watch than Eng v NZ. There was plenty of skill in the forwards but it’s a 15 man game and the backs might as well have stayed at home.

Sincere apologies if this isnt you but....

that's the kind of analysis you get from someone that doesn't really follow team sports regularly and certainly someone's that's never played!

    Hey guys

Dry your eyes. England are out. Scotland are out. The difference isn’t that great. It’s nothing to do with nationalities as suggested here. It’s all to do with getting beaten by better teams.

England didn’t get further than expected once the draw was made.

If you’re looking for exciting open rugby, simply do not watch England. They are not that kind of team.

Chin up guys. Failure again for England - just as the Scotland team were.

Well at least England put some pride into the British teams, Scotland had an abject tournament and England showed form is temporary, class is permanent.

Perhaps Scotland can learn a thing or 2 from its bigger and better brother down south?

Well I thought England would put in a performance this evening (hoped) and they did.
Rugby is a 15 player game but it’s the 8 up front that win it. This was always going to be both packs going at it, with the backs standing around getting cold. For once England’s kicking was accurate, it’s almost as if 4 years hoofing practice had finally paid off.
I am sad that they are out, sad that Sinckler got dicked at the set piece again (I really like the guy) but the team put in a shift and exceeded the expectations of most. It was the majority of the teams last game in an England shirt and to go out on a performance like that is nothing to be ashamed about. Well played
