    Washing NATO and canvas straps

Apologies if I’m posting this in the wrong place, I tried a search which yielded no results.

How does everyone wash their nato and canvas straps? I’ve a couple that are starting to get a bit smelly.

They’re not worth much but still in good cosmetic condition so seems crazy to ditch them and buy another.

I throw them in the washing machine
If you are worried about the buckles getting scratched throw them in a pillowcase and then in the wash
    Then hang out to dry

Put them in your jeans or trouser pockets when you wash them.

I throw them in the washing machine in one of those little string bags that come with washing tablets. And i generally do it before they become smelly.

soapy water in the bathroom basin, or in a shorts pocket in the wash.

Hook it on a belt loop on some jeans and throw it in the wash usually works for me.

Rub some washing up liquid into them, leave in a glass of water overnight and rinse. Or as someone else said, put in a sock with the washing, still rub the washing up liquid in though.

As people have already said, big sock or pillowcase, and throw them in the washing machine.

In these complicated ways, isn't it nice to have a question that has one correct, definite answer?

Why bag them? I just throw 'em in when I use the washing machine.

It stops the strap hardware clanking on the drum, and if it has polished hardware stops the drum marking it up.

My washing machine eats socks all the time, would devour loose canvas or NATO straps.

(Not to create a tangent, but this is why, despite loving the look and feel of natos, I've given up on them; they feel sticky and dirty to me quite quickly, which is why bracelet or rubber always win out - quick rinse in soapy water and back on the wrist in seconds.)

Ive taken to using mechanics hand cleaner and a nail brush, not perfect but certainly much better, its a shame nato seem so disposable, especially if you have an odd one that really suits a given watch.

I scrub very hard with a nail brush and fairy liquid before then putting into an ultrasonic cleaner for 10min cycle in warm water whilst I go log on and order a new one from ebay.

Your wives/partners may have a "bra bag" for washing machines.
I use one and just stick fabric straps in there along with the scaffolding.
