Hehe Chris, this is turning into photoshop tennis

That tiny seconds hand at six is not a good position for this design IMHO.
In fact no second hand at all seems the best solution :) .

Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
I like the second hand at 9 o'clock or not at all.
I agree.Originally Posted by Daddelvirks

Every watch a story.
But then again, it would be too much Panerai... wouldn't it?Originally Posted by chrisparker

My thoughts exactly, but I agree it does not work at 6 o'clock either so maybe best to stick with none.Originally Posted by mr1973

That, but at 9 o'clock and moved in so that it doesn't obstruct the "IX" too much. It is a little too large at the moment, so fractionally smaller.Originally Posted by mr1973
EDIT: But the best option is no sub-seconds at all.
Looks like a Trias or one of the other lower tier wannabe's not up to Eddies usual style. If made it will not go into the museum collection.
No. What it needs is a ivory white subdial at 9. Below is a crude attempt but hey, I am not Mike! - You´ll get what I mean from it anyway:
It's not my kind of watch, but it's got potential (how much and how any changes, is something yet to be found it seems).
Best wishes,
AP;)

Well you know what guys, I like it :thebirdman:
It looks too cluttered with the seconds dial just plain is best imho
LOL! :DOriginally Posted by JCJM
Maybe we could try it without a minute hand?

No hands and no movement a real cost cutting idea! :DOriginally Posted by swanbourne

I personally I have to go with the NO's, I really dislike the dial, and agree it doesn't fit with the rest of the watches on the Precista range....
I like this basic design - Roman dial, two hands, Radiomir-esque case, and flieger crown (without a crown guard) - with a touch of Bauhaus in the lugs. It combines some of the best elements of different time periods and design schools. My preference would be for the 38mm size, with either the Ronda 715L or Seagull movement. May I suggest a few "tweaks?"
1) Either substitute an onion crown for the flieger, or move the crown to the 9 o'clock position. The current set-up looks like it would be very irritating to the wrist with the large, sharp crown.
2) Use the brand "Precista" on the dial below the XII, but with a slightly larger font and more "modern" version of the script (perhaps something like an "Ariel Cursive/Italic"). Above the VI put the WR rating in the same style font, but non-Italic.
3) Screw-down crown, please (more sense of safety if there are no crown guards).
4) Issue the watch with a Time Factors Rallye Strap as standard (with choice of color).
Hope this helps to move the discussion forward.
I like this watch.
I like the Roman numerals and dots, the two hands (blued?), and the yellow luminous color. I prefer a script Precista on the top of the dial and minimal or no text on the bottom half of the dial. Crown guards are a nice touch, but only if they wrap around the crown a bit. I usually prefer manual wind watches, although an automatic or even quartz could be a possibility as well. No screw down crown with the manual movement, either way with an automatic or quartz.
I'd also prefer a slightly domed cyrstal, not flat. A vintage looking domed plastic crystal may also look good. Unless there's something really special about the movement, I'd prefer a solid back.
However, I would vote for a larger size, say 45-46 mm. 42 mm just looks too small on my wrists (although from what I've seen in this thread so far I suspect more people are happier with 42 mm)
I'd buy one in a second...

and without a minute hand!
If we had no hands at all, I could call it "Guess".

Then why go with the sandwich dial and hand-wound movement? No matter what, a watch like this and yes, also the PRS-20 will ALWAYS get linked to a Panerai.Originally Posted by pinkwindmill

I like the original, but with a second hand if auto (like to see at a glance its working)....or have it with quartz without. Also think the Precista would look nice in the Panerai font
In a more coherent moment ( as opposed to furtively typing in a meeting), my strong preference here is no seconds hand, although if it is there, the 9 oclock position feels best (no rationale). A small amount of text on the dial appears to enhance the overall effect (IMHO).

Mark
If you're going to use a Seagull etc..movt. is there any with some complications that might be attractive? The prs-20 is very simple and clean--that's the attraction already. I do like the seconds hand, and heck a PR, gmt, chronos, regulatour (spelling? that complication with the hour and the minutes separate), any excuse for two crowns etc..would be nice to see.

This man is truly something...
Sub-seconds would be a deal-breaker for me.
They're the reason I reject most Panerai's. It's the weird second hand that doesn't match the hour and minute ones.
Perhaps it's time for Eddie to do his first ana-digi display:
Ooh, kewl, totally crown operated! :DOriginally Posted by Glamdring

SM73 - would you go for sub-seconds if the hand design was better? Just interested - I've always thought the Panerai "leaf" was a little odd too.

Possibly. Although I don't enjoy sub-seconds anyway, generally speaking.Originally Posted by thenikjones
Never been attracted by this type of watch (I wouldn't own a Panerai even if they cost 1/10th of their current price), but I have to say this one looks very nice, not sure why. 42mm also makes it wearable.
Yeah mon! I wan dis one :? :drunken: :drunken:Originally Posted by swanbourne
This is my first chance to make any comments on this. I really like the idea of a smaller sized "Italian". Not sure if I would go with the 38mm or the 42mm. It all depends on the lug tip to lug tip dimension. Has that spec been established yet?
The point may be moot for me though since I just don't like Roman numerals. Good luck with it.

I haven't had much sleep, but how did we get to No.30 on the PRS project list? The 50 would have been the 23 originally IIRC. I can only think of the Vanguard being added recently.

Subseconds at 9 is very nice and helps to bring the design away from being a mod up PRS20 to something that can stand on its own...
a contrasting subdial for the subseconds would make it really special too... except that I understand a nice subdial would probably add to the cost of manufacture?
