There are many members here with a collection running well into triple figures.
The easiest way to guestimate an average might be to run an anonymous poll with ranges to choose from.
Sidh a new member has 48 watches .I wonder if anyone can claim to own more than that ?
I also wonder what the TZ average is .
I myself have 8.

Think we had one of those. Mind you, that was before rajen had to undergo his enforced sabbatical.
Tootall has got the largest collection of any member on here that I've personally seen. 260, all of them flikflak, and all cross catalogued on various xl spreadsheets. Not my personal taste, but you've got to admire his dedication.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
4
18 plus 2 currently for the chop
It's not me, with three. Although I watched a documentary on Minimalism last night a kind of thinking I've two too many.
More ambitiously, do we have any members who don't own a watch......a far more challenging prospect.
I had over 100 when I last counted.
Added a few more since then.
48? Pah!
I'm just a very naughty boy.
Good deals with- VINSTINK, kevkojak, Optimum, Omegary, seikoking, acg, SPEEDY, kfman, Card Shark, wajhart, Jot, danboy, zenomega, gaz64, minke, Mal52, Alas, norfolkngood, Sparky, rdwiow, mrteatime, gravedodger, joeytheghost, lordoftheflies, Silver Hawk, Filterlab, brooksy, marmisto, Fray Bentos, Bootsy, Harvey69, Mantisgb, bristolboozer, Jedadiah, newtohorology, Zephod, jimm1, Draygo, Raptor.
I may have forgot one or two, apppologies.
I have over 1,000, but they're cheap Chinese things left over from a giveaway promotion I was doing. I think the whole lot are worth less than every one of my proper watches (about 18 in total)
3 watch rule for me. Above that i sell.

Over the years probably 200 plus but now i am sticking to the 3 watch rule.(Sometimes i break the rule...)
What made me downsize was mainly the cost of insurance was becoming too expensive to cover them for my overseas trips.
I've got somewhere in the 30s.
A couple of years back I did a SOTC with a different watch each day throughout January and had a couple left over.
They're a mixed bag, though, from a vintage Breitling Cosmonaute down to a watch that cost about a quid from a Chinese eBay seller, really just bought to see if anything actually arrived for that price - It did and it tells the time!
Who needs a Patek Phillipe?

I follow the 'three watch' rule; but I cheat because I only include mechanical watches; I also have one quartz, which makes me feel a little guilty. But I will never again own more than three 'proper' watches.
I have less than 48 but honestly without tracking them all down around the house I’ve no idea.
Like many other I’ve sold some to reduce the amount but end up buying something the next day anyway.
I have been down to one high value (well by my standards) piece at times but need to have some variety so that never lasts long. At the moment I am working on having 5 which is tricky when you are prone to impulse buying.
I was over twenty for a while but now down to five. Life is easier this way.

This post forced me to go and empty my drawers and do a physical count, something I've not done for some time. More than 40 but not quite 48. I may need help...

At a quick count, including g shock and fitness trackers, I am at 21. I really must consolidate.

I've got somewhere around 40 G-Shocks and many other watches. And I suspect I won't be anywhere near the top of the list. Must count and catalogue (for insurance purposes) them all at some point.
If this thread leads to consolidation goals SC might explode lol
I can't stick to a 3 watch rule as I have 3 permenant fixtures - 1 a 40th Bday present from the wife and 2 special project watches.
In addition to this I have a Suunto and the obligatory G-Shock.
After this I try and stick to the 3 watch rule. Currently Speedy Pro, Avenger Chrono ti (which I'm going to flip) and an inbound sbdc051.
I’ve had a quick look and found two plus a quartz which probably doesn’t count.
At one point definitely had more than 100; currently around 15 but I only ever wear one of ‘em.
Just the three.
A Tag, Nomos Tangente and an Alpinist (last two courtesy of this forum's enabling tendencies :) )
Have no rules but I can't see myself having more than 5 or 6 at any one time. I like to wear my watches a while, usually rotate every two/three weeks. Can't get my head around wearing a few watches in a week but I guess life would be boring if we were all the same.
I have one on the wrist, it just changes depending on the situation.

Those with over 100 😲
😂 😂
Trouble is I find it hard to throw things away so have quite a few non-functioning and out of battery old digitals. Probably twenty or so runners plus another few loaned to my boys.
Johnbaz, the answer is Johnbaz.
Cheers..

No idea. Well over 100 though, perhaps approaching 200. Mainly Russian.
A dozen for me, which seems a manageable number. A mixture of about 4 keepers including one of Eddies, and the others pretty much expendable, but of the, ‘had to try one of those’ variety!

where the hell do you store all these watches, especially the high end stuff?
11 for me, about to be 10, which is a max figure I can wear and reasonably justify. 5 is the lowest I would want to go if it came to it.

Having maxed out at 27 I’m currently at 13, partly due to ‘trading up’ (selling several to fund the purchase of one better one) and partly the result of realising more clearly where my interests lie.
I have two 12-slot watch boxes. So since one watch is always on my wrist, my second watch box is now used to house all my spare straps.
And yes, I do wear all 13...

Think a more fun question could be how many of the watches you own are known of by SWMBO?...

About 300.
I have sold watches for about £12k this year on eBay but I keep getting more in. I have seven more arriving next week!
Still at least the replacements are costing a lot less than the ones I am selling so that is something. I see stuff that I know is underpriced and I find it hard not to buy.
I must resist though, it is completely ridiculous to have so many.
Mitch
I’ve 6, which is 3 more than when I joined here earlier in the year...
I’ve now instigated one in one out (though liking the sound of a quartz loophole!)

Probably not, but Oracle, Haywood, Mike Wood and others on here will wither have stock, alongside personal collections that would outnumber all but the craziest of collectors.
If I included all watches, G-Shocks and odds and sods I think I could probably get to around 70-80, but if I limit the man maths number of watches to only higher end Swiss/German/Japanese, then I'm probably closer to 50, give or take.
That said, I'm considering retiring/semi retiring again at some stage soon, after being dragged back into an almost full time year over the end of 2017 to now in 2018 I've decided to turn down an offer of a full-time MD role and live a simpler life. So my thinking is... I'll just convert most into a small holiday home and something like a VW California and see how things pan out :)
I wouldn't say that buying lots of watches was a savings plan (and certainly not a recommended one), but it hasn't worked out too badly/costly for a hobby I love. With a few models in particular having outperformed most things I own and off set a lot of the losses on compulsive purchases of a Bi-metal watches, or trying more obscure brands for example.
Ultimately it's not about the number it's about the enjoyment. I used to get just about as much enjoyment from owning a 16570 Rolex Explorer II as my only really nice watch for years as I do owning lots of different watches today.

It's just a matter of time...
One Rolex Day-Date, one Corum Bubble Joker Chrono, and well over 100 Seiko's.... I've no idea exactly how many!
I've given up setting a limit on how many pieces I have. Instead I've set a spend limit on the whole collection
