Yes.
.
Bear with me...
This is a bit of an odd thought, possibly provoked by the lunchtime beer, but do we think there’s anyone who both owns a Speedmaster Professional and believes that the moon landings were faked?
That'll teach him to ask a closed question...
Simon
My mate swears it never happened but he seems happy with his dsotm

I don’t believe that anyone really thinks the moon landings were faked. Yes I know many claim to believe this but I think they only say it for attention or to provoke a reaction.
So the answer to your question for me is “no”.
Didn't Stanley Kubrick wear a Speedmaster whilst filming the moon landings?
______
Jim.
I wish this were true but there's so much NASA "hoax" material out there that a lot of people have swallowed it, and a glance through the comments in any Apollo / NASA video will show this all too clearly. I'm afraid a lot of people (a tiny minority of course, but a lot of people in absolute terms) genuinely believe the Earth is flat, as well.
Of course we may still hope that none of these people owns a Speedmaster.
I am not sure.Of all the hoax theories out there this is the one that could be true.I think we will only know if it happened when China or India land on the moon and find prove the USA got there first
What I do find strange is people who buy into the DSOTM watches when the moon doesn't have a dark side.
And what would you accept as proof that China or India went to the Moon?
My experience with these people is that there is no possible information that they won't simply dismiss as fake when it contradicts their theory.
So if in 20 years from now, there are news reports that China has landed on the Sea of Tranquility, along with photos of Chinese astronauts posing next to the 1969 Lunar Lander, they'll say that China faked these photos to add credibility to their story that China landed men on the Moon. Which they couldn't have done (they'll say), because of course no-one can pass through the Van Allen belt without being exposed to a lethal dose of radiation.
There's only one rational response to the moon landing conspiracy theorists...
...a very hot spoon applied forcefully and repeatedly to their foreheads...
Do we think there’s anyone who both believes in the moon landings and owns a fake Speedmaster Professional?
I own a Speedmaster and have a slightly more nuanced response.
I believe a landing on the moon did take place, but remain open-minded to the possibility that the photos/footage may well have been faked.
Well, as a guy who was a "fully-formed adult" at the time of the Gemini and Apollo missions, I can report that they were absolutely convincing.
If you think about it, there were hundreds (thousands?) of engineers and scientists intricately involved in every detail of each mission. For one or more of the missions to have been faked would require the biggest conspiracy ever imagined - - and one perpetrated on the most brilliant people in the world!
That could NEVER happen. End of story.
On the flip side.
I don't have a Speedy , but I've actually been to the moon.
So, I think Omega are fake .
Or something .
What about if I have a Speedy Pro but don’t believe that the moon is real and that it is actually Atlantis? I’m sure Omega will bring out a commemorative model on the off chance anyway

Maybe, just maybe, some of it was faked. It might answer the shadows and lighting effects that people tend to be swayed by.
Sure there will be. Owning a Speedmaster has naff all to do with an interest in the Apollo missions, of course many will have chosen that watch because of the connection, equally many won't have.
When I bought a Speedmaster I wasn't aware of the connection, I chose it because it was the nicest looking Chrono I'd seen, it was that or a Carrera. At the time I had no idea about Omega, other than I recognised the brand from the Olympics.
This came up a while ago, I ended up having an argument with some idiot who was convinced it was all faked.
Some people believe the earth is flat, some people believe in socialism, some people believe the moon is made of cheese, so there are some real wierdos out there, and sadly some people do believe in the fake landing. Therefore there will be a few speedie owners who think the moon landing is indeed fake.
If the landing was faked but the watches were authentic, does that mean in another universe the landing is real but the watches are fake.....?

People don't 'buy into' the DSOTM for the literal reason you state; they buy the watch because they like the look of it and features. It may not appeal to you and that's fine, we all have different tastes. To use a quote from Arthur Daley: 'Some people have taste, others have opinions!' The term' Dark Side of the Moon' is a legacy from an Earthbound observer always seeing the same features on the Moon's surface, hence from Earth it's the 'Dark' i.e. non-observable side. Of course, it gets sunlight and isn't actually constantly in darkness.
Except that the questions around ‘shadows and lighting effects’, as you put it, have been answered many times over by people who actually know what they’re talking about, to no avail. Some people just need to be left to wallow in their ignorance while the rest of society moves on.
Moon landing 'hoaxer's' are idiots, plain and simple!
Do they believe Concorde was faked? Because that was a better technical achievement from the same era.
if It was faked, Omega would be on the band wagon first with a faked moon landing limited edition!
Moon landings might actually be easier to fake than a Speedie Pro! Fakers can't replicate the subdial spacing as there are no similar cheap movements to the Omega calibres.

I think this image is from lunar orbit via the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, but good idea. Even these photos of all the Apollo landing sites still don't convince the conspiracy wackos. The biggest clincher for me is that the Soviets conceded defeat, having tracked the missions very closely.

I find it curious how anyone who questions the 'Official line' becomes categorised as a wacko? Particularly when accusers hide behind the safety of the interweb.
There are some absolutely glaring anomalies in the Moon landing and other so-called conspiracies that should be examined. Don't get me wrong please because I really don't give much of a toss one way or the other, it won't change my life, just something to chat sh*t about.
Would you say the same about people who believe the sun rotates around here earth, and why?

Poor choice of words on my part - apologies. I'm all for being open-minded and challenging things I promise you, and everyone has a right to their opinion. I was referring really to some of the ignorant commentators on YT videos. Anyway, surely it has been examined a lot over the years and the anomalies gone over and explained many times. I think we should just marvel at this astonishing achievement and the talent and effort that it took to achieve. Seeing one of the remaining Saturn V's at Kennedy Space Centre several years ago was awe-inspiring. Anyway...back to watches.....must wind my Speedy.

This is why I think the theory that they didn’t go to the moon (and return) falls through.
The Soviets would have loved to expose Apollo XI as a failure, and presumably had the radar/observatories to expose a fraud, not to mention the considerable overseas intelligence capacities of the Soviet state. One way or another, I suspect it would have been found out by now.
There is a difference: one can be observed and calculated. Aristarkhos of Samos, Copernicus and Galileo expressed it in remarkably precise terms for their time.
500 years after the last 2 no one has demonstrated that there was no God (nor that there was one, admittedly ).

No, there is no observation and calculation no matter who expressed it. All pure fantasy and delusion. If anyone thinks otherwise and can prove it they are welcome to claim the James Randi million dollar reward.
Anyway, apologies to everyone for diverting this watch thread.
