    36mm Explorer - last made

Can anybody enlighten me when they changed to 39mm. Also, more importantly, did Rolex ever use 904L steel on the later 36mm watches? Thanks

    I think that the 36mm 114270 was changed to the 39mm 214270 in 2010.

Unless someone corrects me, all 114270s were 904L.

+1, that's my belief. I think the last ones were made around 2010-2012.

    I purchased a V serial number 114270 in Dec 2009 in Malaysia.

I was told then it was one of the last available of 36mm version (but I'm sure this was before the 39mm one was available).

904L definitely - I was told this at the time by the AD (and you can just tell by looking at it).

Sorry, you can`t tell just by looking at it unless you've literally got x-ray eyes.

I`ve repolished many watches, including my own Rolex cases, and I`m very hard-pressed to see a difference. Putting two similarly polished samples side by side would be the only way I`d pick out a very small difference, but to look at a watch in isolation?........no chance!

A Rolex brochure from the time states that 904l was used in 36mm Explorer.

Mines a V serial - 2009.. believe this was the last run before the switch to 39mm?
