You can't be too fussy for a grand, and that looks OK for the money. A guy I know bought one of these and fitted an induction kit to it, he reckons it sounded like an NSX!

I am looking for an Accord Coupe V6 at the moment and was wondering what the resident car experts make of this.
I am a bit worried by the fact that the air box has been replaced with a K&N filter - I am not sure whether the exhaust is standard either.
Looking at the mileage I would guess that a cambelt change is about due soon too.
However its in a price range that suits my bangernomics agenda.

It's being made VERY clear at the bottom of the listing that this is a trade sale so no comeback. To be honest, it's probably just the guy covering is backside but my advice is to phone him and gauge what kind of trader he is. If you're unsure, walk away.
The exhaust is not original. I wouldn't worry too much about that as being an auto, it hopefully hasn't been redlined everywhere. As with any car of this age / Value, it's all about getting in front of both the car and the seller and making a judgement.
Thanks for that Dave.
Forgot to say, this is a relist. It was up for auction and ended at £890 last week. Either the buyer was a time waster or rejected the car upon collection I guess.
The seller has good feedback.
There was a lovely example of one of these listed on SC at the beginning of the year, I waited too long and it had been snapped up before I could swing into action

There's one on Autotrader for around a grand but it's done 144k.
They do occasionally come up with lower miles. I ran one as a company car for a while - no problems whatsoever.
I'll keep my eye out for you.
I like the look of this one on Gumtree
Problem is that Guntree's system cant connect me to the sellers number - Ive sent an email though. I note that its been listed for 75 days so may well have gone by now without the seller removing the ad - might be why I cant get though on the phone perhaps?
It looks relatively unmolested and with 98K on the clock
Listed for £790

The first one looks a bit over-priced and if the cambelt is a 70k mile issue, it's due another fairly soon which could be £400-600. Awful colour too! Don't worry about a K&N filter, they're 'for life' so often chosen to avoid £15-20 each service!
The 2nd one looks a better bet and much better colour!
Thanks.
On reflection I think that I will give the first one a miss.
I wish that I could actually make contact with the seller of the second one!
make sure you have a small arse ...my father-in-law had this model and I drove it quite a bit..... the seats and bolsters were clearly designed with slim bodies in mind and I could never get comfortable
however super smooth engine and great reliability
I bought that and it has been brilliant this year! I got a new stainless steel exhaust made for it (bespoke, cost around £400) and apart from cleaning out the intake valve, replacing the mains relay, and servicing it has been faultless. It gets lots of appreciative comments from those folk who know there cars. It has a good turn of speed for an 18 year old car and also makes a good noise.

Having run several Honda’s of that age to well over 200k miles I have high regard for their build quality and reliability.

Doesn't matter what a trader says in the advert or on the receipt. Unless it is sold as a non-running car, you have some degree of comeback. In practical terms, for £1000, whether or not it is worth pursuing is the question.
Car looks OK. K&N would not put me off, lot of car for the money.
Also - are these really using timing belts? I would have thought Honda use timing chains, no?

The first car was an auto, so very difficult to red line it all the time.

The first car looks pretty clean and tidy but "… 4 good tyres, 1 almost brand new"? Personally, I'd want at least matching tyres on opposite sides, not one brand new and the other side not so brand new. Moot anyway now I guess.
Good luck, it looks a lot of car for the money.
Well, looked at this and took it for a test drive earlier.
Bodywork is amazingly good could hardly find a ding anywhere. Some scuffs to the corners but hardly noticeable.
Only other faults I could find were a slight knock from the back (sounds like a drop link to me), wear to the edge of the drivers seat (everyone I have seen has been like that), a sidelight and dashboard bulb out, alloy wheels need refinishing and thats about it.
I am not keen on the glowing neon stereo system thats been fitted with a lead going to a gigantic speaker thing in the boot. Still, theres no accounting for taste.
The exhaust system is a little louder than I would have liked but its nearly new and I have the invoice for over £400 so I am sure I will get used to it.
At a negotiated price of £800 I thought that it was worth a gamble.
Picking it up tomorrow afternoon.
It will be off to the local Honda specialist for a full service next week.
Congratulations. That's a lot of car for not a lot of money!

As I understand it, when a trader/dealer sells to a private individual then there is no longer any such thing as 'sold as seen' and that private individual has recourse in the event of an issue.
Trade to trade deals are different, but a trader can no longer simply cover themselves by calling something a 'trade sale' when it is not.
Great news! Welcome to the Honda Accord V6 club! I'll take a picture of mine once I've cleaned it at the weekend (its red with black leather - I'm sure you can visualise it!). I think they are fantastic cars. As mentioned previously, I got mine from this forum a year ago and have enjoyed it since. I had two LS400s before it and although it isn't quite as powerful (or quiet) it is more engaging to drive (well, as much as an automatic can be I suppose) and gets a lot of appreciative comments from those in the know about these things. Enjoy your new car! Budget motoring means more money to spend on the important things in life - watches!!!!
Excellent news...it does look very smart in Silver and still modern looking to this day...let us know how you get on after the checkover / service..
Since picking it up yesterday afternoon it has been pressed into immediate service and Ive now covered just over 200 miles.
So far these are the things Ive found that I either forgot to check for or overlooked when inspecting it:
Crack in the windscreen, not in area of view for MOT purposes
Cruise control doesnt work
Wear to drivers seat bolster worse than I thought
Corrosion to alloy wheels looks worse than I thought
Drivers door has dropped by a few mm's - hardly noticeable to be fair
Some minor corrosion to the rear wheel arch lips
It has one of those annoying beeping alarms fitted (not necessarily a fault)
Again not necessarily a fault but the exhaust is loud! Possible too loud for my taste
Windscreen is being replaced on Saturday
A friend of a friend runs a body shop in Sussex and is going to attend to the minor bodywork issue next month - he will also refurb the alloys and repair the drivers seat.
I will have to get an auto electrician to remove the alarm system - whilst he's at it he can remove the gigantic sub woofer and amp in the boot and tidy up the spaghetti of wiring attached to it.
Not sure what I can do about the exhaust - someone told me that you can get silencer devices to fit in the end - a quick Google didn't come up with much, what it did show were things costing at least £70 - so for four pipes coming out of the end that would be £280! Any ideas on this folks?
All this to one side everything else is good. Nice and smooth. Excellent performance too - 70-80 cruising at very low revs and if you put your foot down it takes off like a rocket. I opened it up on a stretch of dual carriageway near my place last night and it was touching 100 before I realised it!

Seems a bargain for £800. I paid that for just a service last month! Not sure I’d be spending money on aesthetics on such a car though..
Re the exhaust, it probably wouldn’t be too hard to find some youngster (accord forum maybe) who would want to swap their quiet exhaust for a louder one. I expect they would even pay for a garage to swap them over
Hadnt thought of that
In the meantime, I spotted these on eBay
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Exhaust...0AAOSwoaFZrlVL
Worth a go?
Have you spoken to Honda to see how much a new exhaust would be? Or Kwikfit?
Or take it to a proper exhaust specialists and they may be able to just replace the noisy bits.
Not sure if Honda Legends are of interest?
There's one up on Autotrader for a grand and a half with 82k on the clock at the moment.
I looked at getting an exhaust from Honda for mine. One tail pipe bit was around £200. It would be imported from America. In the end, I got a PowerFlow exhaust done from a specialist in Crewe. It is fantastic. All stainless steel and total bill was around £450 from memory. They could make it as loud as you want. However, at 48, any boy racer days are well behind me so I've got an exhaust with a gentle growl, a little louder than the original one but not by much!
I had a powerflow exhaust made for my Alfa 33. They are as good as the franchisee so make sure you ask around and find one with a good reputation.
The guys in the Crewe garage were first class.

Bodywork, wheels and seat repair booked for next month at mates rates.
Today I have had some time to take a good look and start tidying various bits.
Turns out that the drivers door hasnt dropped, the catch mechanism on the door pillar was loose - 30 seconds to align and tighten up and everything fits as it should.
Huge speaker and sub amp removed from the boot along with the power wires that were rigged directly to the battery. My youngest daughter wants it - heaven knows why as if she puts it in the boot of her Fiesta then there will be no room for anything else!
Got rid of the knackered matts and fabricated some replacements from a roll or heavy duty rubber matting I had in the garage.
The aftermarket CD player broke down this morning on my way for petrol and wont let my have my Morrissey CD back!
Just waiting for the windscreen repair man to come now........
Did it stop just after you removed the sub, you charming man?
I wish they still made cars like this. Tax and economy have pretty much killed off this type of car. I remember my Dad's old Toyota Camry V6 from 1990, pretty much Toyota's top model before Lexus came along, she was lovely.

The Autoglass guy came on Saturday - about an hour to fit and then 45m drying time.
15 minutes later he knocked on the door and said there was a 'problem'
He showed me the new windscreen and pointed out a deep scratch about 12" long running right across the area right in front of the driving position. He said that he had tried to polish it out but couldn't get rid of it. Said it was up to me if I wanted it fitted anyway - depending on whether I wanted to 'take the risk'
Well that was an easy decision to make. Fitting rebooked for Thursday morning.
In the meantime I am racking up the miles and everything is becoming smoother. The poor old thing has stood around virtually unused for so long. I am even starting to get used to the loud exhaust. I will be changing it as some point though - a genuine Honda one is over £1K but a friend of mine can get me a nearly identical one from Japan for £240.

Full service today
They said that the engine and gearbox were in great shape, nothing in addition to the service needed doing!
They sent me a video of the general inspection underneath:
