There’s a lot to be said for classic and uncluttered elegance
I am now a convert to no date dials.
No fuss about setting day/date, worrying about damaging the innards because you changed the date around midnight without thinking etc.
Symmetrical, less clutter and easy to read are an added bonus for me.
There’s a lot to be said for classic and uncluttered elegance
I like my no date watches especially as I rotate and as you say makes setting so much simpler plus half the months you have to adjust for 28/30 days anyway !

None of my current ones had a date.
I really dislike the way date (and even worse, day) windows spoil the symmetry of the dial.
Agree: in real elegance, "less is more" . . . . . .
I prefer some watches without the date , especially on dress watches .
@Yokel , the Glashutte original is a gorgeous example , simply stunning .
These pictures show just how good no date watches can look. Unfortunately I just can’t get away without a date window.
I would use the date function very rarely, yet all but one of my watches (422) have a date function. Not really through choice, it seems that most models have that complication.
Would love to try a base PAM in the future, when the watch fund has been replenished.

I really wouldn't recommend to anyone that they make the decision to avoid date windows. I did that when starting out, and oh the limitations it puts on you, especially in modern watches.
Same is true of manuals. The search for a datefree manual with central seconds brings very very few results, unless you go for late sixties / early seventies vintage.
Nice collection there
When I first got into watches I wouldn't consider a watch without date and a bracelet, now my tastes are towards no date and a leather strap, preferring the simpler appearance.
Cheers
Kevin
I prefer having a date function.
Some watches do suit having no date. Some of the glashutte watches look better without the date. Every now and then I even think my sub would look better without a date.
Many of my vintage watches pre-date (no pun intended) date and day date watches. Here is one that doesn't, but looks lovely to me without.
I have no date, date and day/date watches. I think that if I ever whittled my group right down, and disregarding my Datejust which is my only real keeper, I'd probably end up with a manual wind three hander without a date, most likely a Dornbluth. I really appreciate the ease of winding and setting a manual three hander without date. Meanwhile I do enjoy wearing the no daters I have . . .

The best time date device is your brain. If you cannot remember what todays date is, then you need to see a doctor.
I hold no views on the appearance issue as I now like the look of dates, days, months and even years.
Liking a date function is fine but needing it denotes you have a problem.
I NEED a date function; I look at the date many times a day.
I do also have short term memory issues due to a head injury in 1985!
I do like non date watches though.
Edit : I saw many doctors between 1985 and 1990. They couldn’t help me then and I’m pretty sure there’s little point in me seeing one now.
Like others on this thread I started out wanting all my watches to have a date function but over time I’ve come to appreciate more the cleaner design of no date. Here’s mine

I just checked I have 9 watches,I had no idea untill I gathered and counted them.
1 x HW no date
2 x quartz divers no dates
1 x quartz military navigator no date
1 x auto diver no date
If asked I would say I prefer no date
But on my other 4 watches having a date seems to fit the watch.
The IWC pilot watchI bought recently I was sure would be better without the date, now I think it adds something.yet it’s the biggest complaint people have about the watch.
For a watch that I will wear daily (ie, to work), I like to have a date. There's invariably some paperwork or other I need to sign, and it's handy to have a quick glance at the date on my watch. Does that mean I'm retarded? Have to say, I'm a bit worried I'm a simpleton and didn't realise it until now.
Rolexes with roulette wheel dates lovely, no date Subs much prefer them. I like the date windows on Seiko Pogues and UFO’s , like day dates on C Shape Connies and love no date Speedmasters. I think with me it’s down to model.
Love a no date dial. My daily wear is the Tudor Explorer BB41 and the simplicity and elegance gets me every day. I think it might have actually ruined the Pelagos for me!!
I do accept a date at 6 tho, as long as the window is nicely integrated into the concept.
Hmmm… I'm sorry, I thought you were a retired purchasing manager for Royal Mail, but it seems I was wrong – you were actually a fully-qualified doctor specialising in memory and brain function. Where did you practise?
In reality, short-term memory lapses such as not knowing the date in a given instance are very common and are usually an indicator of nothing more serious than temporarily forgetting the date. But then, I'm not claiming to be a medical expert on such matters so please see your doctor if this happens on a regular basis.
Funnily enough I never actually set the date on any of my watches, but this is the only one that has no date. Sure to be a favourite ;)
As per usual, you want an argument for the sheer sake of it and really you should make these comments in the BP where you can throw in a few swear words to spice it up.
Yes it is obvious to anyone over the age of 12 that short term memory losses are normal and usually nothing to worry about. Now if you care to re read what I said, it was - "If you cannot remember what todays date is, then you need to see a doctor". Common sense dictates that if it happens once, then there is no problem, however if you NEED to keep looking at the date because you just cannot remember todays date, then things could be more serious and a visit to the Doctor is advisable. I hope that clears things up. But again you knew this because you said it in your last sentence, so it is just squabbling for the sake of it.
Now please rant back in the BP instead of polluting threads with your petty grudge comments.

For me it varies from watch to watch. Some look stunning without a date, and others I think suit having one. I have both types, and appreciate both types as much really. It's just a very subjective thing I suppose with no correct answer.
prefer no date generally. Not a fan of date windows, prefer the radial type date function more common on calendar watches. When I have had vintage watches that don't have a quickset, the date was never even set correctly so pretty pointless.
I quite like a no date watch but, most of mine seem to have date windows. One that doesn't and I like the symmetry. First time with Tapatalk so, it probably won't appear anyway...
Cheers, Chris

No date all day long, for me. Although I have no idea what that day is...
I’m a big fan of no date watches, mainly because date windows are often so badly executed (to my eyes at least), I’m a particular hater of the contrasting date wheel that seems so prevalent.
Unless the date's at 6 I think a date window always spoils the symmetry of a dial somewhat. On that basis I prefer non-date watches, being retired helps because you rarely need to check the date! Ironically a day-date is more useful to help remember which day it is.
Rolex Explorer, Speedmaster Reduced, plus a couple of 1950s Omegas are all non-date models in my collection. Keep it simple.

I've whittled my collection down a lot, but there is always a no date in there. currently a Maranez layan.

marchingontogether!
I generally prefer no dates as like others have said I often think it ruins aesthetics. Plus I change watches a lot (more hassle) and I don’t really find it necessary. I see it first thing when I turn off my alarm in the morning, again when i read the morning paper, then it pops up in the bottom corner of my screen when I open my laptop, where it resides for the rest of the day. Not that much opportunity to forget. Saying that, I appear to have found myself in a situation where most of my current watches have a date and I quite like it. So what do I know. Man of no principles or values

A couple of no date watches I've had which I think would have been especially unpleased to see a date window
Always good to have a non date watch if you can to mix things up. They do have a cleaner look to them too
I use both....Date and no date. Depends on the watch. If pushed, I do prefer dials without a date window. But then I also prefer dials with a minimum amount of text. And they are not so common these days. All the fault of Rolex.....well, partly their fault. Just the text 'Rolex' would be fine.
Some chance.
