Despite using special shampoo, which is supposed to stop water marks, the car looked a mess without having been dried off.
Still water marks on the roof, the rest came clean.

Need to find a good drying solution.

Very economical they say, 50mpg when cruising rather actively during my 700km roadtrip. 3-liter straight six, very nice. However, using a passing lane I noticed two trucks ahead and thought that the remaining 500m of double lanes to a strong uphill would allow for a safe overtaking. Well, making it safe resulted in the end speed of 150km/h -Polices posted at the top of passing lane were happy to give me a four figure fine. I've started thinking if something like 318i would be a wiser choice..

I'll find out tomorrow about my bid for this:

    Nothing special but the mileage:

    Makes it worth a punt.

The dryer..? it's the smallest in the Metroc Vac range, the Blaster Sidekick

The detailer guy's been using this for a number of years but he recently went for one of their grown up models and I admit, watching him in action, the new big-boy is a lot faster but then that's over two hundred quid.

I think doing a final rinse with softened water helps a lot as well. I've always towel dried up to now but I'll be trying the rinse with soft water (a couple of watering cans) and then blast dry. If you're in a hard water area (I am but have a water softener installed for the house) then you can get inline disposable water filters for your hose pipe which, according to the write ups, are very good BUT they work out at £1.50 per wash :-(

A little off topic but I'll probably get my ass kicked for starting another "what car" thread. What car should I be sinking £6500 into? A coupe or saloon ideally - no MX5s though as it will be a daily driver which I will need to carry stuff in for work.

I've just ordered a new Mercedes E63s AMG.... am I excited or what!

Like this one.... not this actual car, mine is due to be ready for me during September.
    I can hardly wait.

Same colour and similar spec to my old 630i which has to be one of my favourite cars ever. Enjoy!

PS IMHO silver really brings out the detail in what is probably Chris Bangle's best effort.

I believe you're in the trade, and I know very little, but i always thought you should avoid very low mileage cars for their age?

I thought frequent short runs without getting a car up to temperature was about the worst thing you could do.

You are correct to a point yes. This particular car though was maintained very well and used on a gentle 150 mile run every now and then. Also stored in a heated garage. It's all academic now anyway, I didn't get it!

Sorry - only just seen this reply. Probably a petrol manual with sub 50k on it. Ideally cheap tax and 40+ mpg.

Ok, it's not turbo powered or mapped or tuned, but it is very quick for a Hybrid and ridiculously well specced in my options :)

And it makes driving around a city pleasant again.

Hi, does that have a straight 'electric' mode and if so, what's the range please?
Thinking of a hybrid or REX electric as my commute has changed to an 11 mile round trip to the train station...
I still do the occasional longer journey though.
    Thanks.

Love the family wagon. We had to unfortunately get rid of our T5 as it wasn't practical with our twin girls car seats with the one sided access. I will get another one day. Do you attend any of the VW weekends?
We replaced it with an A4 b8 avant 2.0tdi. How do you find the DTUK box? Looking at getting one but a bit sceptical fitting a generic box appose to having a remap created to my specific engine.

They should make a vRR in my view, based on the Golf R platform.

Hi it does have an option to run entirety on battery but the range is tiny, only a mile or so with a full charge.

Saying that though I've found it very economical, especially for short town trips as it uses the battery whenever possible, I'm averaging 55-60 mpg even on short runs in traffic.

It is also surprisingly nippy in Sports mode as it uses the battery charge combined with the petrol engine to give a boost, it won't challenge many of the cars in this topic but it gets to 30 mph pretty fast:)

Sheppey - outside the Playa Club. Thought it looked familiar. The wife's family used to live just up from that many years ago.

I seriously considered one of these and may well look at one later (when they have dropped a little form the scary starting price!). Love the brutal performance coupled with near limo luxury! Did you drive one?

986 looks so much nicer in that colour than standard silver.
