The book is brilliant, I've read all the books I could find on the SR71, amazing plane.
This is a great talk from the author of 'Sled Driver' at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Saw one at the museum in NY. Way ahead of it's time and made me wonder about 'alien technology' etc with its fuselage shape. An aircraft where even it's tools were specially designed/forged. The dripping fuel tanks always amused me. But then amazing as the SR71 it was, Concorde could take a plane full of passengers in ordinary clothes at Mach 2 over 3000 miles.
Here's a link to a short article written by him to keep you going until you've got the time to watch the video.
Great share - many thanks!.
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........

I have had a(unclassified)copy of the SR-71(A&B) flight manual for some years now, quite fascinating!
Thanks for the link GB, an excellent hours viewing
What an enjoyable video.
I feel a visit to see the SR-71 coming on...

Ignorance breeds Fear. Fear breeds Hatred. Hatred breeds Ignorance. Break the chain.
Go stand under and touch one at Duxford.
Incredible thing really. I remember seeing one do a rare display at Mildenhall Airshow when I was a young banana.
So clever my foot fell off.
An amazing aircraft, when i was younger (hmmm, probably 30 years back) I had the delights of going to the Mildenhall airshows for numerous years where one was based in the UK as my Dad was fascinated in at... in fact we used to go to quite a few airshows especially at the US airbases
Such amazing memories and very sad when it was retired, though we did get a couple more viewings when it came back into service briefly

Stunning photography , Sacramento to London 3 hours, brisk!
Thanks to the op for posting
I always remember my Dad talking about the one he saw at an airshow years ago; he was quite blasé as he'd grown up around aircraft, but he said the SR-71 was in a different league.
I never got to see one, despite many visits to airshows in the 80's and 90's. Perhaps the closest was the B1B.
I watched this on a trans-Atlantic flight yesterday - utterly brilliant. What a gifted speaker.
Great video thank you for sharing it!
He's a very good speaker, saw a similar kind of talk with Cmdr Chris Hadfield recently and highly recommend going to see if you get the chance. Another fighter pilot who is very inspiring.
Have to say i really enjoyed watching it, one of my favorite quotes, i was in a 57 chevy with another four inches of throttle and they were in 1980s technology and couldnt keep up.
Not very keen on inspirational speakers, but certainly worth watching.
I've read the book, but watched this last night and really enjoyed it. He's a good and engaging speaker, helped by a fascinating subject.. Thanks for posting.
Inspiring that he came back from a life changing situation to fly A-10s THEN transitioned to the SR71 and pursued his hobby as well. Very unassuming man from the video but those jobs didn't get handed out to the also-rans!
This afternoon's Radio 3 episode of Private Passions features Chris Hadfield - it's definitely worth a listen:

Thought this might be the most obvious place to post this.
Along similar lines, here is a link I think I may have shared in the G&D before.

It's about a B-52 strike package that went very wrong!
Great links thank you.
Had the pleasure of seeing Chris Hadfield on a speaking tour a few years back which was a highly entertaining evening.
I’ve hunted out copies of Sled Driver over the years as would love a copy but always too rich for my taste.
