    Croatia secrets

    Hi,
Has anybody been to Croatia and can recommend where to stay for a short break? We would like beaches and bars but nothing too lively, we're well into our 30s now!

    Thanks

Ive been many times and would recommend just about anywhere on the Dalmation coastline. About a 10 minute drive from Split airport you will find the village of Kastela, lovely beaches, bars and places to visit. A trip to Split is a must and also to Trogir which is also very close to Split.
    Lovely country lovely people

We went in October and did Dubrovnik, hvar and split over 10 days. 3 days is plenty in Dubrovnik. Agree with Frankie that split is worth visiting. Day trip to trogir and day trip to krka national park well worth doing.
Hvar is good, but noticeably more expensive, apparently very lively in season, but we went just out of season and it was fairly quiet at night.
We hope to go back and explore northern Croatia

    Hello

It's beautiful there. Rovinj is very nice and there is a beautiful Island not far from it with a hotel complex and beaches. A great place to stay with a regular ferry service to Rovinj.

Been to Pula and Cavtat and was seriously considering Split this summer. It's a beautiful country with fantastic clean seas.
In the summer they have an outdoor cinema in the colisseum in Pula, not sure of the dayes though.

I loved Makarska. Nice places to eat, a little flea market, bars on the beach, the cave bar dance club, cliff jumping, decent stores to shop, water craft rides etc...

We also went to a Hadjuk Split game which was an experience I will never forget.
Their "ultras" or the torcida are something to behold, 90 minutes of non stop singing and dancing accompanied by plenty of pyrotechnics!

Can also recommend Cavtat- Good base to visit all the islands and close enough to Dubrovnik- Lovely little place with a Stunning Marina, loads of nice restaurants dotted along the front and some reasonably priced hotels. Will be going a couple of times this year myself.

I visited Split in 1968 as part of our family holiday. I shared a bag of fresh cherries. Nice they were until I discovered that every single one had a maggot in. I haven't eaten a cherry since.
Dubrovnik was amazing even to a young lad as I was then.

The cultural references, occasional use of Cyrillic and mountainous terrain around Sproj (or more accurately, Sbrodj) indicate a location further inland and east of present day Croatia.

For beaches, quaint surroundings and not too busy I can recommend Korcula. Very friendly locals, crystal clear water and superb restaurants.

It is a Croatian Island so bear that in mind.

My wife went here with her friends last year https://www.radissonblu.com/en/resort-split

She enjoyed it but she wasn't so keen on the pebbly beach and how steep the entry to the water was.

Not a bad choice for a hotel either! Thanks for the link.

By April it is warming up but defjnitely go fairly south to make sure you get the warmth.
So definitely more towards Dubrovnik area and islands around there.

we had a thoroughly enjoyable trip last June/July to Rovinj

fantastic place, plenty of bars and restaurants to chose from and relatively cheap even post Brexit, only a 40 min drive from Pula airport

we were within a minute or 2 walk from the centre and loved it (we stayed here the owner has 4 properties in the vicinity)

Would definitely return in the future, beaches aren't brilliant but there are plenty of places to relax by the sea within a few minutes walk or drive

not as 'touristy' as Pula up the coast and better in our opinion

Dalmatian coast is the main target for most of the visitors, but there are other beautiful places in continental Croatia.
Plitvice lakes is one of them for sure

I did a few of the islands off Split in the summer.

Started in Korcula which was very chill and a lovely place. Went onto Hvar which was more lively (this was July though), on the same Island we did a day trip Stari Grad and had lunch at a lovely winery, seemed a little bit quieter there than Hvar town. We then stayed in Split for a few days before flying back.

All of the places were excellent and very easy to catch a ferry between each. Korcula sounds like what you are after but a week there might be too long as it isn't a huge place, we didn't travel too far from the town often though in our 3 days.
