    Military omega question

Hi guys, just looking for a little help regarding these watches... I'm looking to take the plunge in the near future though seen some on eBay for example with brown hands and plots and then others with bluey hands and plots...
I'm just wondering if it's a tell tale dodgey one or was there a reason for the differences?
    Thanks

Which Omega are you considering? There are several.

I've been shopping for an Omega W.W.W. (Watch, Wristlet, Waterproof) for some time now. It is a process that exposes you to a lot of fakes and demands a high degree of skepticism. What I see in this instance is:

    * Probably correct style of case, although almost certainly refinished
    * Probably correct style of crown
    * Probably correct style of hands, but paint is missing from second hand and hour/minute hands heavily slobbered with faux-vintage lume
    * Really quite badly done reproduction dial, with faux-vintage lume (the latter being actually pretty nicely applied, although the colour is like no tritium patina I've ever seen)
    * No movement photo, so no clue as to its condition or correctness
    * No photo of the caseback, so we can't check for proper markings or look for the typical "authentic WWII laser engraved markings" so often seen with these watches

I'd say this is likely to be a civilian watch tarted up as something it's not. I've seen this particular auction seller flogging various dubious military watches, so I personally would run away.

Here is one useful link that you should keep bookmarked when looking at these W.W.W.'s: http://www.time514.com/BritishX.htm

NB: All the foregoing is my opinion as an amateur collector, I'm sure the experts will be along shortly...

There are a few more photos in the description if that could clear up a few more issues but much appreciated!
    Thanks for the link! :)
I'm looking for one but I think I would like one tgat a been serviced, I know that goes against most collectors but I'll be looking to wear it so it needs to work correctly...would this make it cheaper??

I wouldn't touch the first one you posted a link for with a barge pole...

The second one looks better but i am in no way an expert.

Don't know what MOD means?.. but I'd definately say the dial and hands are relumed.

In this context "MOD" means that the dial on this watch has been replaced with a service dial at some point during the time when it was the property of the Ministry of Defence. This is something that commonly happened when a watch was in need of repair, and also to change a watch to tritium lume if originally had radium. For a W.W.W., the giveaway is the fact that original dials have a solid white circle around the seconds track, but that circle is missing on a MOD dial.

To me there's nothing strictly wrong or undesirable about a MOD dial, since it is after all something that was done routinely during normal military service. I'd be happy to own a W.W.W. with a MOD dial in good condition.

Ministry of defence - the original would have been radium and therefore many were changed in service. Original dials are recessed for the sub seconds.

Thanks guys... Yeah I mean I'm happy with that dial. So In everyone's opinion that looks like a decent watch?
How much price wise should I be expecting to pay?

Around the £600+ mark would be my guess...

    Thànks guys!
I would be happy with this one too of it's all alright... The dial looks to be replaced but that's what I expect... As long as it's not fake if anything dodgey I'd be happy with it.
Could someone check it out please? Pics are in the description too

What kind of taxes and customs would I be looking to pay on it at that price??
    Thanks

I'd personally go for the second one myself.

The first has had a new dial as mentioned. It's not really a dodgy dial as suggested as I have several Omega dials both original and MOD in similar condition.

Good luck and if you ever consider going down the "Dirty Dozen" route I may have some doubles or triples of a few of the others 😉.

I probably would prefer the second one to but if the 3 rd one is legit the price really does it for me. I know taxes and vat will have a bit on it but it still won't be as much as up to £600.

Can anyone shed light on the 3rd one?
    Thanks
Ooh 3rd one is now sold...
Still I'm interested to see if there's any feedback for it :)
