Is that one of the new ' Basel' day dates?

If so would you PM the price? I've not got any current prices for these and fancy the green one.

    Best,

    James.

Bought in 1977 and worn on an alternating basis with an Oysterquartz for 30 years until quite recently. Still one of my all time favourite watches

It's the new one. I bought it in Stockholm Sweden. The price here is 180000sek. Roughly 16000£.

That's lovely. I bought this for myself over 2 years ago but my Mum knicked it after I'd worn it about 4 times and she's never given it back! Currently working on a DD2 to replace it.

Don't you guys feel that the DD2 is slightly big? Or maybe that's what I'm telling me because I can't afford to buy one :D

The watch to crown any collection IMO.

The Rose Gold DDII with black dial, Arabics and concentric circles being my fave - sublime.

To be honest no not at all, I have a date just 36mm that I never wear as I find it wears to small. I tried on a day date 36mm but it just did not look right on my wrist. However the DDII was the perfect size.

Agreed. Providing you don't have very small wrists (< 6.5 inches), it looks fine.

As dumb as this may sound, I think the Day Date is as rock n roll as it gets Horology wise. The gold and platinum versions are a timeless classic and iconic, in my opinion. I think almost every brand has a piece like it but Rolex just nailed it with this one.

    Enjoy.

One of those watches that I had no interest in when younger... now nearing 40, I find the gold DDs extremely desirable...

    Same here-
I once had no desire at all for a yellow gold watch....but I'm 39 now and view the Day Date 2 as
    a grail watch.
23k though is a slightly depressing list price- but imho nothing beats the President bracelet for quality-it's fantastic.

    I have a 1992 vintage Day Date.

It keeps great time 1 -2 seconds a day, but very blingy and gets noticed all the time.
I like to keep it as a dress watch when going out smart, but aside from that I rarely ever wear it.

    Lovely watches.

Anyone tried a vintage white gold DD? I'm not to sure that it is worth the extra premium of a YG......

    V. rare to find one in this condition! A superb example.

Here's mine..... a 1992 vintage, sorry not the best picture (taken with my iPad).

It's not my favourite watch. I rarely wear it, at 36mm it's a bit small, but it is an amazing timekeeper, - a second a day is damn good.

Can you all stop this please. I am seriously concerned that this thread is making me have unnatural thoughts about trading my 1665 for a YG DD.

At the risk of being the lone dissenting voice here, I don't like this watch and I don't really understand the appeal of this style. I respect the OP for having the funds and the man-bags to buy and wear this and I'm glad he is happy with the purchase but it really doesn't do anything for me and does not feature on my wish-list. The gold DD on the leather strap, however, is a different kettle of fish...

Nah. I have a 7.5+* inch wrist and any good watch looks good on it, including a DD.

One of my favourite high-end watches is 26mm - yep, that's twenty-six mm - and my daily wearer is 34mm.

Throw off your big watch shackles and enjoy all the watches out there.

I felt exactly the same as this, I wore a GMT 2 everyday and loved the sporty steel thing. However, having tried on YG, WG and platinum date just and day date I have to say that its something that would probably change if you tried one.

My favourite I've tried was a white gold datejust on Oyster bracelet. It was just stunning.

I tried in WoS. Stealth awesomeness. Love the white dial!
