That's what friends are for!
Really lovely watch...
So, was out celebrating my fathers 75th a few weeks back with his wife and his oldest friend of 50 years
while my father was deciding what to eat I was chatting to his friend, who obviously I have also known all my life and he said that he no longer wore his watch, it had just been serviced and he would like me to have it, as he knew how much I like watches and that I would appreciate it
Well, today he presented me with this, and although a little small, I will cherish it and pass it on to one of my sons at some point in the future
Excuse the poor iphone pics!!!
That's what friends are for!
Really lovely watch...
This is one of my favourite models with the dagger style hands.
So different!
That's a beautiful gift. Truly enjoy it and good health to doing so!
Lovely story and immense generosity - wonderful friendship, hope I might be in a position to make such a kind gesture when I reach that age!
brilliant mate :)
enjoy it for many generations to come
Lovely thing to have happen to you. The watch is pretty nice too. Lucky you...the chances of something like that happen to me is in the negative. Enjoy!
Beautiful watch and a future family heirloom.
What a lovely gift.
Cheers,
Neil.
Stylish and classy! A Rolex I that would be proud own!
Lovely watch and a lovely story.
What a great gesture and looks a perfect size for your wrist
What a wonderful gift - one to treasure. I was only looking at a very similar watch with a friend yesterday - his was dated 1959 - given the hands I'd have thought yours dates to a similar era.
Congratulations. That's a cracker....and a little small? Looks perfect and I love the hands!
Very nice something to pass on to your kids as well

Lovely story and a fantastic handmedown. Would be great to document a bit about it and the benefactor for future generations.

What a lovely gesture. Wear in good health !
lucky you. wish I had a friend like that. I am sure your son will cherish it when he becomes the proud owner.
I need to get myself some friends like that!
Seriously though, lovely watch. I don't think that they are that small at all, they wear nicely and the size is pleasant as it makes the watch understated rather then being too in your face. They look nice on leather also.
You're a lucky guy!
The only watches that were given to me belonged to my late grandfather (a gold Ancre and a Mariner I - that was his daily beater) and an uncle who crashed at Zandvoort circuit.
The Mariner I had stopped running the very day he died and was overhauled in Biel by Omega, the Ancre was serviced locally (needed it: had been in a drawer for years).
The watches from my uncle (6139 and 6138-8020 Seiko chrono's) both needed service, the 6139 was the watch he wore when he crashed, it had a broken crystal and needed extensive repairs (I bought a donor to get enough parts), the 6138-8020 was neglected by him for ages and needed a regular service plus new mainspring.
So: I have until now been given non-working old watches ;-)
Lovely old school watch I am sure you will cherish it
Wow, wow and wow. That is lovely. You must be very highly thought of by this family friend and I am sure your son will love it (if he gets his hands on it).
Size looks great on you.
Lovely story and the size looks perfect on you.Be a nice talking piece i'm sure. All the best. Kev
My grandfather gave me many things during his life, including a sound value system and subsidisation of my university education.
When he died, I inherited his watch. A rather battered Casio digital on a leather strap. Still, can't have everything!
The epitome of the timeless classic.
Wear it well.
