This box and papers thing with fairly ordinary watches is a pretty recent phenomenon, more or less since the internet got really going.
Pre internet, when I bought new watches in the past, mostly Seiko, the box was chucked away pretty quickly and the papers followed when the guarantee ran out.
Which is why you very rarely find box and papers with vintage watches and almost never with Seiko's.
