That I like very much, we had the unprotected internets call last week, & I managed to keep the chap on the line for 20 mins trying to understand why this almighty Mr Thwaker can do anything on my internets including shoppings but wouldn't make me a cup of tea...... I like tea ;)

Thank you, no thank you. I haven't laughed so hard or for so long since John Cleese goose stepped round the Fawlty Towers restaurant.

Excellent, sounds just like a buyer my daughter had for her car on Autotrader.....
Special 'schools' in Nigeria apparently have 'lessons' on various forms of scamming.
As a friend, who has worked there for many years, claims, if they had only put their brains / skills to honest work they'd do very well !!

    Fantastic read - very funny!

However, as someone who has never used paypal, I'm curious - what is the actual nature of the scam? Myabe I'm being really dim, but what can you do with a payapl email address?

Awesome. Mind you people must actually be falling for this otherwise they wouldn't be trying...

Either use someone else's credit card to pay or use your own funds, perform a fraudulent claim (for goods not as described or goods not received) and get a free car.

Hmmmm - but surely you'd still need a password to get into the account and actually accomplish any of those things? I don't see how an email address alone is enough?

He only needed the email address to actually make the payment (all paypal accounts are referenced by email address) and not for any nefarious purpose. That was to come later either when Paypal reclaimed the funds on behalf of the real credit card owner or when the 'buyer' claimed that he never got the car.

Ah - OK, I geddit. Well if paypal reclaims funds that easily, it seems a bit of a daft system to me? I guess its buyer protection, but still...

On the topic of funny internet trolling, I'm sure you've all seem David Thorne's very funny website?
