I also watched that recently and enjoyed it enormously. Kate Winslet's projectile vomiting scene is extraordinary :shock:Originally Posted by mark996

So atmospheric and that zither theme makes it IMO.

Chernobyl diaries.
I loved it. Mainly for the views of the abandoned sites.
My daughter saw it, she said it was very scary. I quite fancy seeing it myself.Originally Posted by verv

Saw the millennium series (Girl with Dragon Tattoo, etc), it's the same as the films, just two parts put together to make the film, have to say although the first is good, it goes downhill with the second and third films (series episodes 3-6). I think the remake is also better, as it does make it a little more polished.
I watched the series a while ago after it first came out, have to say that i was a bit surprised with the violence and sex, as it was a Swedish TV show, then again it's Sweden. this was probably children's TV
As for good films, well i've seen a lot of bad ones, Lockout with Guy Pearce was horrendous, there seems to be an abundance of movies without much thought in them these days.
Good little political film is The Ghost (Ghost Writer in some markets), telling the fictional(?) story of a recent ex-PM. Great cast and directed by Polanski :)
A Norwegian film called "Headhunters" is also really good. Has a sort of Tarantino style to it, really exceeded my expectations.

A very dark film, Paddy Considine's directorial debut. Excellent acting in it and a few harrowing moments.
Close to the edge - Documentary on TT race Guy Martin. Absolutely wonderful :D
Well, I certainly wouldn't class 'Warhorse' as a good film. I was subjected to it over the weekend: slow, rambling, chocolate box cinematography. Don't waste 2.5hrs of your life!
Skier
The best film I have seen of late, bar Inception, was Chronicle. Fantastically dark and a real surprise.
Caught We Need To Talk About Kevin on Sky Movies last week —*terrific movie.
Also saw a great Dick Clement/Ian La Frenais-scripted crime movie from the early seventies starring Richard Burton and Ian McShane — Villain.
Saw that years ago although you never seem to see it on TV.Originally Posted by Seamaster73
IIRC a thinly veiled story of Ronnie Kray with Lovejoy as his young fancy lad.
Cheers,

Watched a cracking film a couple of weeks ago... Cell 211.
Prison drama in Spanish with subtitles. Obviously a very different storyline but similar quality level of past imports such as 'Amores Perros' and 'City of God' (both of which I'd highly recommend if you've not seen them).
Hadn't heard of it and wasn't expecting much, but really enjoyed it.
Happiness.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0147612/ Wrong on so many levels but Ben Gazzara is excellent.
And Justice for All.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQzYNoLANrg
The lawyers laughing scene is always worth a watch

Recently saw for the first time a film almost as old as me - and what a cracker it is! - no wonder it's termed a classic...
THE WICKER MAN
Never realised Edward Woodward was such a great actor (top marks for his Scottish accent, by the way).
If you've never seen it, seek it out
I watched a Korean film called "The Chaser" recently and thought that was pretty good.
Agreed. Unfortunately the remake with Nicolas Cage is a mega-turkey.
I saw a preview of The Dark Night Rises on Wednesday and was very impressed. Rounds off the Christopher Nolan trilogy very nicely.
The Amazing Spiderman was also excellent. Much closer in spirit (but not story) to the original comic book.
Based on the referrals here, I watched 'Headhunters'. I enjoyed it overall, yet... I don't know. It felt as another show-off movie -look, we are so smart and you'd never have thought about this. And the 'inside the feces' moment starts being a clichee.
I also watched The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Guess I'm a sucker for this kind of good-natured comedy. Will watch it again and again in the years to come, just for the 'good vibes' :)
Watched North by Northwest with mrs NJH this last week when it was on the TV. She had never seen, I hadn't seen it for about a decade. Nothing like some classic Hitchcock.
Seen loads of films in between but the last one I remember really enjoying was watching the full length Das Boot for the third or fourth time. Bit of a marathon though that one.
No! The remake is a much-misunderstood comedy classic!

Watched today 'Get the gringo', with Mel Gibson. Should there be a 'Still got it' championship, Mr. Gibson would be up front.
Lately I'm not much of a fan of action hero movies, but this one has exceeded my expectations by far.
We just watched "Withnail and I". Wonderfully witty and funny film. Sad too, at times.
Best wishes,
Bob

.... not as sad as it might have been. The original screenplay had Withnail killing himself at the end instead of, or after, reciting Hamlet's speech to Rosencrantz.
Irreversible & Pan's Labyrinth
Just got back from Vegas and watched a couple of cracking films on the plane home, the first was called ID:A a danish subtitled film about a woman who wakes up on some rocks with a bag of cash, a gun and no memory of how she got there and the plot unwinds itself from there. Very entertaining.
I followed that with 'Wild Bill' a gritty London based indie film directed by Dexter Fletcher also well worth a watch.
Crank 2 'High Voltage'
Yeah, Peter Mullan is a great actor, who has also done well directing, and Paddy has done well directing, but is also a great actor, one of my favourite low budget movies is Dead Man's Shoes, one of those films with next to no budget, but somehow has pulled together a great cast and the script and scenery do the rest, ex boxer Gary Stretch is in this and he does really well, but the performance of Toby Kebbell is fantastic.
Dead Man's Shoes is a classic in that dark gritty British vein. Liked it a lot but sadly reminded me to much what it is like to live in many places.
I have high hopes for the new Batman film, the last one was one of the best big budget modern films of the past decade IMHO.
Another vote for the girl with the dragon tattoo - would also recommend Driver - if you have a strong stomach!
Just watched the debt. Very good spy thriller and worth a watch if you haven't seen it.
Finally watched 'The Artist' this evening. Not just a movie, but a love letter to cinematography. Exceptional!
I thoughly enjoyed all of these:
The Shawshank Redemption with Morgan Freeman.
Sexy Beast with Ray Winstone & Ben Kingsley.
Reservoir Dogs.
Rumble Fish for the second time in nearly 30 years.
If I remember rightly, the story has autobiographical elements. Paul McGann's character is Robinson and Richard E. Grant is based on a friend who I think drank himself to death. Robinson also had an unfortunate experience with a famous Italian director which was the source of Uncle Monty.
I was once silly enough to play the 'Withnail and I' drinking game whilst watching the film in a cinema in Bournemouth. Won't do that again in a hurry.
The Good ,the Bad and the Ugly.
Never seen it before. Was definitely one of the best films I have ever seen.
I watched Jerry Maguire the other day. Not seen it in years... brilliant!
I watched prometheus at the cinema a few weeks ago, good film especially if you liked the first 2 alien films
