Aargh another 'soul' man  where does it come from ? It's driving me nuts please stop it's just a *******watch no soul was added when it was made. Think of the cheapest ugliest mech watch, when was the magical sprinkling of soul dust added and by who ? And the car thing, I drive about on a horse and cart as it has much more soul than a aston.
It's pretty obvious what soul means in this context. Quartz watches have the "assembled by robot" vibe, mechanical ones have the human touch.

I'm a Soul man myself like Otis. 8)

I've got some quartzes and they have their place but they resemble computers too much too me and are a world away from the old time charm of a mechanical.

Quartz - I would rather stick burning hot needles in my eye balls. Whats the point of belonging to a watchforum if you wear Quartz, might as well join a Apple forum.

    :D

    Andy

(actually some quartz are quite nice but stangly the really nice one are copies of mechancial watches - so you might as well but the mechanical version - unless you really do need to know the time to nearest 1000th of a second - which I dont.)

Quartz when travelling or doing some manual labour. Got a few Seikos and Swatches that do the job nicely.

I honestly prefer the mechanical aspect of the cheaper Seiko more, but much prefer the acuracy of the quartz.

I wish i had the chance to pick up Happyjack's Revue chrono when it was last available- a very nice watch indeed, i would love a chrono with that movement. I am also kicking myself, it appears that i just missed murraymint's PRS17C- if it falls through mate give me a yell (i'm not stalking you mate, we just must have very similar tastes when it coems to watches  )

Nick - I'm thinking of selling my other RT Airspeed quartz Chrono and getting a Breitling M1 with the HEQ version of that same superb movement. The RT is currently hanging over my desk and has had about 5 days wear since I bought it, brand new. Please PM me if interested. Happy to meet up around Sydney.

I have worn some Seikos as they "shine" all night, keep spot on time and last and last and ......... you get the message but I still like my Valjoux' for wrist presence. 7730's and 7750's - great! Just love that freewheel on the 7750 rotor which give the same feeling as revving a V8 at the lights! If you've ever had one, you'll know what i mean!

G-shock at work (medium to heavy engineering environment). SBCM023 at all other times. I have a lot more watches, but since buying that Seiko I don't really want to wear anything else. (well, apart from a SD)

Personally, not a fan of quartz.

Each to his own though. It's what makes the world tick (or not).

I don't wear and don't own one now; had a Seiko SBCM023, sold it as I thought I prefered autos but for some reason I now miss it...

Perhaps not quite the same analogy, but given the number of porkers I have seen stuffed down the drag strip by Scooby's it does highlight there is more than one way to satisfy the urge

A few years ago I would never have worn a quarz. Now I can only second the above statement

Another thing I never thought I should say; Manuals and quarz can coexist just fine...at least the ones I have :P

Having said that I am looking forward to take charge of my new Speedy X-33, so might wear quartz now on a more regular basis. But it was more the space relation rather than the movement that got me interested in the X-33.
i wear a g shock from about 1990 for work every day...still going strong!
