I have heard good things about The Stone Roses and The Jam so far.

______
Jim.
Del Amitri (ballads/easy listening, dance around the border between this and soft rock, easy to listen to, great lyrics, great music, well delivered)
The Skids (Punk, short lived, accessable and musical)
Big Country (former guitarist for The Skid, now deceased, pop rock/new wave, energising)
Stiff Little Fingers (Northern Ireland, Politi-Punk, Conflict Grunge, inventive, catchy, ageless)
Budgie (Pioneers of heavy metal (around the time Black Sabbath started out) and prog with funky classic rock, massively criminally overlooked, influenced Metallica among others. Metallica did a cover of their songs 'Breadfan' and 'Crash Course in Brain Surgery'; good covers, better originals! DO NOT be put off by the 'Heavy metal' tag, they are VERY accessable!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budgie_(band)
The Almighty. (heavy rock group, energetic, thoughtful, great riffs, excellent lyrics, compulsive melodies)
Black Stone Cherry. (American classic/Southern Rock. A young group who sound great; don't discount them because of their age, powerful, strong, engrossing songs, check out their eponymous first album)
Tedeschi Trucks Band: (Again, American. Soulful blues and slide guitar, really should be hear to be beleived, check out the 'Revalator' album.)
Black Country Communion. (Contemporary Rock Super Group featuring, Joe Bonamassa; guitar legend at 34, Glen Hughes; Journeyman Bass player with Deep Purple as well as others. Check out both their albums, imaginatively titled BCC I and II)
Chickenfoot. (Another contemporary rock supergroup (like buses, you don't see one for ages.........) guitar supremo Joe Satriani, Sammy Hagar on Vocals, Mike Anthony on bass and the drummer from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers)
Loads more but i'm spent at the moment. If you like your music darker, try 'Dead Weather' or 'Stonesour'.
Porcupine Tree
Pineapple Thief
Susan Tedeschi solo is excellent too. Derek Trucks is the son of Allman Bros. Band drummer Butch. The Derek Trucks Band are alsoOriginally Posted by Spencer Lee
