Very good quality, but not to everyone's taste.
I've got an E-type chrono with their in-house chrono movement, beautifull watch and very well made.
Because they are not to everyone's taste you can pick them up for a lot less than RRP.

Afternoon All
I was wondering what the general consensus was on Ebel watches. I see them in the usual shop windows but cannot recall ever seeing one worn "in the wild".
Regards

Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
They are under-rated, over-priced, cool, fugly, well-made, shoddy, works of art. Basically, design disastors that leave most people cold, hot, happy and sad. Worth every penny, at the right price
I guess I am saying that I don't believe there is a consensus
Gray
I had one, Brasila I thinkIt was a beautiful watch, very well put together, great weight, great bracelet etc.
But it was a dress style watch, which don't do well here. We like our divers and tool watches here.
I like them, but like EVERY other luxury watch brand they are over priced.
If you are after one and like it, go for it
Cool looking, but i would only buy one at a very "right price"... As there is just so much i would put before an ebel...
I feel that they are overpriced and generally more suited for ladies.

Fugley watches. yes
ish
Pretty much sums them up for me.Originally Posted by dougjim8

I think if you've tried on you'll like it, I had a 1911 Discovery Chrono for a while, a bit like this one, http://www.chrono24.com/en/ebel/1911-di ... 783841.htm
felt very well built, and like this one, it came in at half RRP. 4k for a 7750 movement appears on the high side these days, so getting it at about half that felt OK. Solid, accurate, and slightly different.
"would have another" as they say.
I think the 1911 chrono looks good

I bought a 1911 Discovery new through Vent-Privee for £1300 when they had a retail of around £3,300.
A really nice watch, good quality and it looked and felt nice but I returned it. I thought the hands looked to short and I Felt something was missing but I couldn't put my finger on it.
I had the chance to return for free so I took it.
But that said I think they make some very nice watches. The BTR looks great but as others have pointed out at what cost.
I had one in my collection a few years ago, a 1911 Big Date in SS with bracelet. Superb quality with some unusual details like the vertical brushing of the case. The bracelet was very solid. Poor resale value though.
Oddly styled watches with screws in the front face.

Quite like the Ebel 1911 BTR Chronograph but I agree with the opinions expressed above. There will always be something in front of Ebel in my watch wants queue.
But each to their own if everyone liked the same thing it would be a very boring place, so if you like them go for it. Just make sure its at a really good price.

A freind has a 1911
I didn't like it from pictures but in the flesh it is a fantasic watch.

The Ebel experience is very different in the flesh. They are very well put together and need to be experienced close up.
So you've got one then?Originally Posted by PhiloStan

That looks very nice. However I agree with the previous statement that although they are nice watch there will always be something ahead of it in the queue.Originally Posted by scrog10

The bracelet on the Ebel Classic Sport Chrono waas something to behold
I think this will always be a divided camp, they use some cracking non eta movements that feature in much more expensive watches. I have had a chronograph which I flipped (theres a surprise) which was of a superb quality and finish and deadly accurate. I currently have a 1911 in steel and 18k gold on bracelet, which I have had since January this year (possibly the longest I have kept a watch since I got flipperitis) and this is quite possibly a a keeper. It has a F Piguet (?) movement in it and just oozes quality, it gets a lot of compliments from non-WIS types.
I think most people that have/ have had them will always be complimentry, those that have n't won't - like a lot of other brands. Of course some people on here will comment just to create a reaction, I think the motor trade calls them tyre kickers
Just my 2p

They did, for a short period in the mid-nineties also use the twin barrel movement Lemania 8815.
