    My Rolex Deepsea - Pictures

    Hi

I know there are have been quite a few threads re the deepsea but thought i would share mine with you, it as just come back from Lumbers in Leicester having had a slight polsih to make it mint again, I am quite anal re the condition of my watches, my wife says i have a mental problem but I don't care

Anyway, taken this afternoon, hope you like them, my AD thought there may be a wider bracelet for this watch soon and a rubber strap, who know's

Hope you like the pictures, think I have finally mastered Image shack

Be careful if you are very anal about polishing your DS - you might polish it into the size of a Submariner.

We better stop talking about being anal and polishing anything, at the risk of provoking a knee jerk reaction in certain forum members.

I never get tired of DSSD pics - don't polish it though wear it until it needs a service and then have it done.
It's just a matter of time...

    Nice watch!
Now I don't know a lot about rolex - do all DS have "ORIGINAL GAS ESCAPE VALVE RING LOCK SYSTEM" on the rehaut?

Yes, they all do. If it's got the ORIGINAL GAS ESCAPE VALVE RING LOCK SYSTEM then Rolex wants to make sure you know it .

    Great pics!
Now if they lost some of the text on the dial and made the bracelet non-tapering.............. :D

Re: My Rolex Deepsea - Pictures

Yes, that might be a saving grace and go at least a bit towards making it look half way decent

All that text is just silly - no offence.

(yes, I know: 'You do not notice it after a while')

    A great time piece! Lovely!

It looks in real even much better. I would stick to the bracelet, and not use such a beauty on rubber.
I wonder how a bigger steel bracelet would fit to the smaller lugs?

Some leather combinations look great too -> Peter Gunny has some nice options like this:

The rubber strap rumour is probably more than a rumour, it will look stonking on a thick rubber strap and be a great and versatile beast to boot

Everyone seemed to hate the Deepsea when it first got released- all you ever heard was moaning about the amount of writing on the dial etc
but I think it's fair to say that over time it has become a blue chip Rolex model- they never hang around long on Sales Corner and
rightly so- the Deepsea is becoming a classic.

They wont be to everyones taste but in the right hands / wrists they are superb. I got offered one today like new, with stickers on it and was tempted to put it away for the future incase I damage mine!!!

If anyone wants one let me know, although it might be gone by now

Just returned from a day at the National Diving Centre with mine. After 18 months I still can't find enough good things to say about this watch. It's a belter as a dive watch, and looks great when you're back on the tarmac.

Agreed, they sell well (at the right price) and they do have their fans.

However, there's still plenty of folks who don`t like em; the reasons have been covered many times so no need to re-iterate. Personally I find the watch far too thick and bulky; my wrists are too small for one to ever look right on me but even on a thicker wrist I still think they look wrong. The old-style Seadweller was far nicer, but the best of the bunch is still the classic Submariner....which looks OK on the vast majority of wrists....even the my skinny 6.75".

Just because folks don`t decry them any more (it's all been said) doesn`t mean we've all started liking them.

As long as Rolex continue to make different watches to suit all tastes then we will all be happy with whatever we personally like  . i do love my DS but I am in the camp of hoping one day that they release a 44mm seadweller or/and a 44mm sub. I know alot of people don't like the idea of that but other manufacturers have more than one size in their range so no reason why rolex couldn't do the same. I do know that a 43/44mm in either would be a world beater, they could have my deposit now without even seeing it

I think the MKII is now 44mm instead of the 43mm and there are very slight changes to the writing on the dial I believe.

Again I would say personal preference, tnose who are looking for the investment will say MKI no doubt, those who think Rolex continue to improve the model will no doubt say MKII, i guess as I have one I would have to say MKII, I do think they will continue to improve the model and I see them one day either giving it a rubber strap or removing the disportionate sizing in the bracelet by making it thicker all the way round, i can't see them being able to alter the height, the other common complaint, but a new seadweller would solve that

    No size increase at all

    MK1

    MK2

Difference on the new dial are

    Overall font is slightly "thinner".

    * The painted Rolex coronet has changed style to look more like the coronet on other Rolex dials.
    * The "E"s in "DEEPSEA" now have a shorter middle line in the "E".
    * The "S" in "SEA-DWELLER" has been changed from a "flat" S to a "round" one.
    * The "ft" font has been changed.
    * The "=" sign is not on Italic anymore but runs as two parallel lines.
    * There is now a larger gap between the ft and metres depth rating, aka "Gap Dial" (seen on the newest Sub 14060M's too, btw.)

Re: My Rolex Deepsea - Pictures

Another overlooked fact is the weight increase the Mk1's one weighs in a 214.3 grams; the second (new) ones at 215.7 grams, the crystal on the "new" Deepseas stands just ever so slightly higher on the most recent examples and have a bevelled edge...
Others seem to have spotted that the bezel is now standing at a more acute angle onto the crystal, making the crystal seem to stand higher.

Are you sure re the size, it use to be described as a 43mm case but Rolex now describe it as a 44mm case, i had heard from my AD that it was now slightly bigger, haven't a clue where though but why would Rolex change its size on the webpage

Its exactly the same its just the way they measure it. They have taken the measurement to read 44mm as its more appealing to the Far East, it was always 43.5mm ish

Why fix what ain't broke? If you want a chrono on steroids, buy a Breitling Bentley. I like my Daytona just the way it is. Petite (just like my wrists) and pretty. Like the rest of me!
