Logical
Well, not quite but I put the black bezel on the LV again and it just looks stunning. Why spend the extra ££££'s for the new ceramic when an "old" LV with black bezel looks soooo good. I'm still getting the new LV though and will be keeping the old LV black.
Logical

GOT...TO...KILL...CAPTAIN STUPID!
It does look good in black but I just put my black bezelled LV into the AD to get swapped back to green. Black was fine, but in the watch box it just looked like a weedy version of the DSSD, so never got picked. :( I think it will get more use being green again. :)
Usually the black bezel only stays on a few days before I've missed the green but I'm sorta pre empting the arrival on my new LV. No confirmation yet but seeing all the pics on other forums is getting me all excited! The original plan was to sell the old one but putting the black bezel on has made me change my mind...just trying to figure out how I'm going to break the news to the missus...
Ive also but the black bezel on my LV and looks great
Looks great on black - the best sub date available imo.
It's just a matter of time...
Looks very nice indeed.
Have you finally settled with a Rolex? :)
good decision... nice looking LV.
Good decision to swap from green to black. The black bezel/maxi dial combo just has the edge compared to a normal Sub; I`ve never been a fan of the green bezel and I doubt whether the LVs will ever be worth significantly more than a normal Sub because they're so plentiful.
As for the new ceramic dial model that's eagerly awaited, I won`t lust after one. The current Sub is an iconic design which will lose something in the update. The new one will be a nice piece, but for me it's moved too far away from the original.

Looks good Mike. Where do you get the bezel insert changed? I've been thinking about doing the same on my LV and need a trustworthy place to get it done
Thanks
Andrew
Hey Andrew...i did it myself. No special tools...just an old butter knife and some sticky back plastic. Took a couple of mins. Popping the bezel off is easy, the tricky bit putting it back on and making sure the small spring loaded bezel ratchet goes in place properly. If you want I could meet you sometime to swap yours over for you. Just let me know. or if you feel brave enough try following these instructions...

Beautiful mate - 8)
if you check the rolex forums, there is some guy from LA, who has just got the first one in the US.
I'll put a link up later, i cant access the website here at work!
Thanks a lot Mike. The link makes it look easy, I wonder if it is.....? I will have a go myself and let you know if I need help
thanks again
Andrew

You don't even need the butter knife. A thin plastic credit card will pry the bezel off with no risk of scratches, and if you keep the crown side up while you do that, the spring won't fall out. Then you can put the bezel back on, lay the insert in place perfectly aligned and use double thumb pressure to snap the new bezel in. Takes about ten minutes the first time and about two minutes thereafter.
Can someone post pics from the US site - cant see it here at work.

Can't see the pics either :( . Chap bought it for $7250 so £4781.67 on current exhange rate. Wonder what sort of price it'll cost in the UK where everything tends to be more expensive?
Will be £4,610 for the black and £4,910 for the green at least until the end of the year before the VAT goes up to 20%.Originally Posted by mylofitz
I'm new to Rolexes - what are the differences between the new and the old Sub?
Sorry if that's a stupid question!
The only thing holding me back from buying my first Rolex is the small case size - is the new one bigger?
In terms of the case, the differences are that it has ultra fat lugs and crown guards, maxi dial, new style bracelet and clasp (arguably an improvement), and of course the ceramic bezel. It's nominally the same size at the extremities (I think) but wears much bigger because there's much more steel in there. I'm not sure that I'd call the normal Sub "small" in the real sense of the word, but for people buying their watches by the lb, the new one will probably push the right buttons.Originally Posted by ach5

a lot more expensive than the non ceramic
Yes I paid about £3300 for a new random serial 16610 a couple of months ago inc 10% discount.Originally Posted by emptycans

Thats a very very nice watch
would look even better with the cyclops removed 8)
Just tried to post the pic from the American site but it's too wide.
I think the new Sub looks better in a wrist shot than in the press shots I've seen.
I can show you some pics of the new Subs:
Tool watch to fashion watch, shame.......... :(
....ridiculous! it is the Sub or as my colleague calls it the Kermit Sub! The black has the same problem than all the new Rollies. I hate the step Lugs-Bracelet. It is far too big IMHO
Yeh baby - this looks awesome....I love it!!!
I like it.
agreed great looking watch, i wonder how these will affect the DS sales,Originally Posted by chrisparker
Not crazy about it from the pics but I'll need to see one in the metal to be sure :|

had an "old" lv,sorry dont like the green dial on the new one.
Will you be able to upgrade old subs to the new ceramic bezel or is the face size etc completely different?

If the Deepsea had been made to the same dimensions and design as the New Sub (possibly a touch deeper?) I`m sure it would've been more popular. I don`t see anything wrong with the new design except that I prefer the original, although I do like the Maxi dial and thicker hands.
I think the new Sub will be v. popular. The difference in the lugs will make it wear a bit bigger; that's true for all the recent Rolexes. Most potential buyers won`t care about the traditional appeal of the old model and won`t mourn it's passing in the same we that WIS types (like us) do.
I guess it's unfair to pass judgement without handling the watch and seeing it in the metal, but for me it lacks the 'coolness' of the original design.

That bezel looks great on the watch,i want one!

I really like the look of the lugs/maxi dial/ceramic on this. It will be a huge hit among the non WIS public, obviously. Plus if the bezel feels like the incredible DSSD one (and it should as it is rotating on similar ceramic bearings IIUC) I will like it even more.
I do prefer the milsub style minute markings on the DSSD - and of course - no cyclops.

Love that Explorer, wonder how much list will be.
Don't know if this is a daft question (apologies if it is !)
Colour of the bezel to one side what is the difference between the existing LV, the current steel submariner and the soon to be launched submariner with ceramic dial? Does the LV have the same case as we'll see on the new submariner. Are there any other differences?
Thanks.
Nice. Bracelet looks a bit narrow now, though. Must be because of the lugs; a 20mm bracelet for a watch head 40mm in diameter is generally "right".Originally Posted by km9

i put a rubber strap on the new Sub and think, it looks great:
