Oh yes. Great stuff. You really get an idea of the thickness of the dial from the date photo.
Now I've got over the blind excitement of the Sea-Dweller (which arrived the day after the SBIII) I've been wearing the PRS-22 for the past few days, and yesterday took the time to play with the extension tubes again. Have tried to pick out the elements of the watch that I feel are it's highlights, see what you think :)
As before, first image is the full image resized and the second image is a 100% crop.

Excellent work Jon :)
Respect the past, live the present, protect the future
Excellent - nice one Jon.

Guy :)
Fantastic stuff mate! Love the crown shot!
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.
Wow ! I need a new camera.
Great Pics. Those close ups of the brushed finish remind me of old Lambert & Butler cigarette packets :-)
Jon, you're making me want to spend money on a DSLR. This is not good
Wonderful pictures - outstanding :)
You could still trade that boring Dreadnought :mrgreen:Originally Posted by Toshi

Cheers guys... I agonised over the pics for a good while as I wasn't sure they were up to the standard of the Sea-Dweller but then started to appreciate the PRS-22 for what it is and focusing on it's features.
My favourite picture out of those is the last one, where you see the beautiful brushing around the case meeting up with the bracelet and it's much finer horizontal brushing.
Also do like how thick the dial is, though the date is quite set back it's more of a feature that way IMO :)
Great shots! :)
What camera are you using? Lens? I guess the super close up is macro and then cropped? :)
Camera is a Canon 30D
Lens is a Canon 50mm Prime 1.8f
Extension Tubes are 65mm and Jessops own brand
I then use an infinity chamber (fancy light box) and a pair of Interfit Stellar 150's with soft boxes
Depth of field is soooooo shallow that you leave the lens on manual focus and just move the camera into position. I hand hold all these shots, but that is only possible due to the lights, but you could use less light with a tripod for a longer exposure.
Ah ha! Canon as I have guess! :) I am using Canon too but 20D, I have 50mm and 100mm lens too. I did not an extension tube, quite cheap, but found it not very useful. Like you said the DOF is so shallow. I tried a couple of shots and then gave it away! I am thinking to get a 50D and then cropping it. I think it might be slightly better than extension tube? No?Originally Posted by Jonmurgie

Fascinating shots, well done!
Super pics, it just shows you don't need to spend a fortune on a dedicated macro lens.

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
Truely excellent shots Jon. :)
And as Eddie says, you don't need expensive macro lenses to get great closeups.
Your eye for composition is very good indeed. :)
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
Thank you, I really appreciate that compliment :)Originally Posted by Griswold

Quick Q about the watch, if I may. In some pics, there seems to be a slight difference in colour between the lume on the hands and on the dial. How noticable is this in real life?
I personally can't see any difference in the lume on dial vs. hands when just looking at the watch... only under that magnification does it look even a tiny bit different, and I don't know how much that may be to the nature of those macro shots.
Therefore, I would say it's something you can't see in real life :)
Great pictures, Jon. I love the texture in the dial.
Excellent shots Jon 8)
Wow Jon, I was blown away by those close up photos.
I can't even get my camera to take a decent close-up of the whole dial, let alone what you have done :(
Excellent job.
Splendid pics but...makes me look like a fool after posting crap pics of the SB3...Hate you!
Great photos! Thanks for posting.
Dave
Fabulous pictures of a fabulous watch 8) some of those shots really show the quality of finish that you get with the SB111
Thanks for posting :)

You utter heartless b*strd....now I want one even more!!
Spectacular images, makes me want to go get a new macro lens and a light box.
Now, anyone have any idea on when the SB III will be back in stock?....
Great shots, makes the watch look so good .. the dial looks superb!
/vince ..
Beautiful photos John! They just increase my urge to get a PRS-22. Thanks for taking the time to make and post these pics.
Nice shots and a fantastic watch (the only one I've worn since I got it), but it just goes to show that there is an appropriate and an inappropriate level of detail in macro photography, depending upon the subject. I look at the 100% crop of the end links and think, "My God! That's a rough fit", when I know perfectly well that, in "reality" and to the naked eye, it is an absolutely perfectly flush fit, probably the best I've ever seen and certainly better than anything Rolex has ever managed to achieve.
Draz - I totally know what you mean, and perhaps selected a harsh 100% crop. I will dig out the Rolex pics and see about a 100% crop of the bracelet for a fair comparison (not that my intention was to EVER compare the SBIII with a Rolex as they are in different leagues).
Thought I'd revive this thread given a few SBIII picture threads posted lately :)
:D Certainly worth the revival for those of us who haven't seen those macro pics before, wonderful photography. :D
Great pics. Great eye for detail!
Thanks for showing :thumbright:
I enjoy shooting macro's myself, but your's is really outstanding
If you do not mind a would like to contribute a marco lume of the Speedbird too
That's an awesome shot
I've not played around with getting cool lume shots yet, might have to give it a go sometime :)
When I take a look at your macro's, I'm afraid you would create a huge lightbulp post :D (love to see it)
May I ask what camera you use?
