I often top up my malt stock in the run up to Xmas and it usually lasts me well.

I have tried most and have some fave's - what's yours.......

Also like Dalwhinnie, Jura, Old Pulteny and Jamesons 12yo. Not a big connoissseur though.

Whiskey is not my thing but Convalmore Glenlivet 26 y o cask strength from Caidenhead is.
Otherwise something good from Islay. 8)

The Balvenie double wood (12 yrs) is an exceptional value.
The Balvenie Port wood (21 years) is an exceptional scotch, but it is about 5 times as much. :drunken: My port wood ran out last month and I've been dreading buying another bottle. Now that my double wood is gone as well, I'll have to spend even more to restock. :(
I still have a couple of others to keep things going if need be.
I definately prefer the highland malts overall, but I have a little of everything just in case a guest prefers the iodine polluted filth instead. :wink: (Laphroaig, et al)
Fortunately I don't drink it all that frequently, or very much at a time, so I can afford to splurge on the "good" stuff.

Laphroaig (25yo Cask Strength, had a bottle from my team as xmas pressie a couple years back, exquisite with a little water) and Lagavulin. The islay malts have no comparisons, for me. They rank with the finest armagnacs in terms of intensity and raw power allied with sweetness and pungency.

Just thinking about them can make a teardrop form in my eye and make me love everybody (see you yir the best friend a guy cid hov so y'are).

I'm not a whiskey drinker, but if you mean whisky, then Ardbeg is my absolute favourite, closely followed by Caol Ila, and like has been said already, all the Islay malts are a bit special if you have the taste.

If they're a bit too... shall we say "acquired" for you, then Highland Park is a wonderfully rounded dram... all things to all men imho.

p.s. If you've never tried Ardbeg, I heartily recommend you do, because though still unmistakably Islay, it really is one of a kind... but be warned, no whisky will ever taste quite so good again! :wink:

Laphroaig is my favourite and will no doubt get a few more bottles as gifts this christmas as it's usually Bells or Grouse.

Very expensive whisky is often very nice but at the rate the bottles go down in our house we would be financially ruined. :lol:

I like Macallan, but something I tried the other day that was superb was Jonnie Walker Gold Label, granted a blend but a fine blend at that. Highly recommended.

The Macallan is my favourite. Dont mind Tullamore Dew or Talisker either. Only blended I tried are Chivas Regal and JW Blue Label. Both nice.

Will never learn to like the smokey stuff like Laphroaig. :?

I currently have a Bruichladdich Peat and a Bowmore 12yr on the go plus there is a Bruichladdich Organic stashed away and waiting to be wrapped for my Dad's Christmas present. On my immediate wishlist are Bruichladdich 16yr Bourbon Cask, Glenfarclas 105, PC8, a Caol Ila cask strength and the Lagavulin 16yr. If I can scrape together the money I would also like to have a crack at some Octomore and get hold of a bottle of Dallas Dhu while it's relatively easy to find. Looking forward to trying some Kilchoman in a few more years (once it's matured) and will probably try my first Japanese malt (Yamazaki or Nikka) this year.

From the above you can probably tell that I am rather partial to Bruichladdich's various offerings. I am keen to support the independant distillers where possible although there is a lot to be said for some of the conglomerates' brands (Talisker is a perrenial favourite for example).

Waitrose currently have a number of very good offers on - it's all I can do to keep my credit card under control whenver I go in! :)

Love a nice malt myself and must have tried most over the years.

Faves inclde -

Ardbeg (used to like the old 17 yr old but now the 10 is just fine)
Balvenie
Bowmore (any age really , but used to like the "Darkest" variant or 17 yr old)
Bruichladdich (The "Rocks" version sold at the supermarkets is nice - peaty Islay but not overpowering)
Caol Ila
Dalwhinnie (lovely but my mates used to joke it was known as the "ladies malt")
Glenmorangie (Wood finish range)
Lagavulin 16 yr (Hard to beat)
Laphroaig
Macallan (Luxurious and very "Christmassy" with the sherry influence - 18 yr old used to be my fave)
Talisker (On offer at Asda now - quite challenging but rich rewards await. Islay fans will know what to expect but there's so much more from this Skye cracker , amazing intensity with a lasting syrupy quality.)

Bushmills have a 15 year old only available at the distillery....absolutely fab.....

Coming from Northern Ireland, Bushmills is hard to beat. The oldest licensed distillery in the world! I regularly drink the 12yr old single malt, with a little drop of water in a proper whiskey glass. Perfect. Its only about £21 from Tesco at the moment as well. The 16yr old is excellent as well but alot pricier. The distillery special reserve that is only available from Bushmills is also very good at about £32 a bottle.

isle of skye is the best blend. it can give many a single malt a good run for its money. i like dalwhinnie the smoothest of the smooth and bunnabahain / bunnyvaughn or whatever its called for some west coast peaty goodness. but really im not too fussy. coal isla is nice too. not a glenmorangie fan though.

highland park is pretty peaty. and don't dismiss whiskEy, try connemara a lightly peaty irish malt and i thoroughly recommend suntory yamakazi from japan.- i'tll give many a speyside a run for its money and is now pretty easy it find in tescoes etc.
