Given Smiths were a large conglomerate at one point in their history and a supplier of instrumentation to a lot of other big companies then I'd say it's more than possible that they made special order watches for said customers. Probably in batches for companies like ICI.
Barrie's excellent book is at heart an assemblage of retail catalogues and adverts from the period so it's likely that it misses things out.
