Who doesent own a Seiko?

I still have the one I wore at school in the late 70's and with a quick wind it runs faultlessly.

With Seiko being so wide in terms of price and choice, with great reliability and build quality it made me wonder who doesn't own one and why?

I took delivery of my first, an unmolested, non-Philippines '77 black/blue dial Bullhead yesterday and I love it. Will post some pix later. Embarrassingly for a semi-WIS, my missus already has a 'vintage' Seiko - a 1980 ladies' quartz.

A seiko orange monster was the first seiko I owned and was one of my first purchases as a wannabe WIS. I sold the monster and was temporarily seiko-less until the natural order was restored with my SARB027 :D .

May have to take the plunge with a blue sumo at some stage!

I have seven at the moment, both modern and vintage. If you choose wisely and are prepared to spend a little more than would be expected by the average non-WIS, you will find some incredible pieces in their lineup 8)

Since yesterday, I don't! I have just sold my Gen2 RAF quartz chrono, replaced as my beater by a PRS-18A. Sold it as it hardly got any wear at all.

I have never bought another seiko because I usually go for dive watches and theirs are OK, but nothing I have ever fancied enough to buy.

I have a blue dialed 6139-6005 that I got new in 1981. I've been trying to flog it (I think that's the term Brits use..). I plan to get a SKX399 from here in the Philippines. Good watches, and relatively inexpensive.

I have 2 with another on the horizon... The only people who don't are bounders and cads, for a Seiko on one's wrist is the sign of a jolly sound chap!!

Somehow, I find myself with 13 complete Seikos plus several others in various states of disassembly. I currently have no watches from other makers. The appeal for me is that you can indulge the hobby without the expense getting out of control. The total value of my 13 watches probably equates to one nice Rolex Sub.

Since I've started learning more about watches, I've really taken a shine to the Spring Drive Seikos (and really liked the Space Walk, but erm, $28k!).

One thing has puzzled me with Seiko is why they haven't 'done a Lexus' ? Toyota, that other Japanese company famed for quality and innovation, but with arguably a (misconstrued, imho) perception problem over branding, created Lexus to move a product line to compete with entrenched European brands.

I know no one here has such hangups, but I do wonder if they suffer in the market from (incorrect) brand perception. Is this a can of worms? :?

I've got 2, both up for sale (although not on here since i'm crawling over broken glass to get to 50 posts :lol: ). Have no snobbery about them, just need to clear some room for my growing collection (The Speedy just started an itch for a Milgauss....).

I think some of their watches (esp the one posted on page 1) are stunning in their simplicity, i.e. clean lines, uncluttered.

Would i get another? hell yeah. After the Milgauss.... :roll:

I've got a few :D mainly 1970's auto chronos (6139's) with the odd quartz and baby Tuna. Bang for buck they are hard to beat.

Had a SKX011J a few years back as I wanted an orange faced diver. Just never felt the love. Didn't like the seiko 5 non hacking non winding auto movement.Do fancy getting a seiko military chrono at some stage.

Currently have a fully bead-blasted Orange Monster, but it's about to hit SC to fund something else (hopefully...) in case anyone's interested. :D

I've also had Seiko 5 Sports diver (dark blue dial, w/pepsi-style bezel) but it wasn't getting worn so got flipped.

I'm thinking seriously about a Marine Master (the one that's now OHPF on SC would have done nicely :lol: ) - really want to try a high-end Seiko and those brushed hands are the nuts. 8)

I own a 6309-7040 which I wear very often and 2 or 3 (or .....who counts Seikos ?) models from the 70's given/stolen :roll: by father,grandfather etc.Seiko is the fender stratocaster of watches,everybody should own one :D

A SARB017 (the green dial and brown strap - I've seen it posted on TZUK a couple of times I think. A lovely dial colour)
A SARB043 (the ultra retro one with roman numerals - lovely, but probably a Marmite one!)

I'd love some of the others (particular the SARB with the faceted crystal), but the best place to get them is Japan (Bic camera at Yurakucho) and I am not going so often now :(
