Every credit Sir - great test.
I was sorely tempted by the sales corner one a day or so ago.
Hi all,
I am new to the forum, but a long time customer of Eddie`s.
Here is something I would like to share.
I just returned from a Malta holiday, where I subjected the PRS-18 Q to the ultimate crush test.
My friend owns a rather large boat and we went out for a day of fishing and cold beer, my favourite combination.
Well, we did not catch anything, had a few beers, and started talking watches. I pointed out the unbeatable price/specification ratio of my PRS-18, he was less than impressed, and challenged me to a depth test. He had a spare 1000ft (304.8 meters) fishing line on a reel, we fixed the watch and a lead weight at the end, and down it went, all the way to the end of the reel (we were a few miles off the coast).
We left it there for a while, as long as it takes to have a pint, and reeled it back up.
I am wearing the watch now, while I am writing this. No negative effects at all. Happily ticking away, as if nothing had happened .
The chaps at Fricker have done an impressive job, to construct a watch capable of withstanding this amount of pressure, for a very reasonable price.
By the way: My friend refused to subject his Omega Seamaster to the same test. He said, the watch was an anniversary present of his wife, and she would kill him, if he wrecked it. What a feeble excuse!!
The PRS-18 Q, a very serious watch for very little money.
Cheers, Mick

Welcome to the forum... a very interesting first post!
Wow!
Nice test... and you didn't even have to get wet!
Good account and welcome to the forum. :blackeye:

Oh, and life would be utterly boring.
A great story :)
Maybe all the major manufacturers should submit their watches to you for testing!
Now, that would be my dream job!Originally Posted by simonrah

Sitting on a boat in the sunshine, drinking cold beer, tossing expensive watches overboard and getting paid for it.
I might send my CV off to Rolex, Panerai etc....

Oh, and welcome to the forum. Based on your testing methods you'd get on really well with bubi.
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
The 18Q is the best VFM quartz diver available anywhere.
Now your account has made me not want to give it up ever!
Welcome to the forum too :)
How cool is that? Talk about balls of steel!
Welcome to the forum, great to have just another mad man around
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.
Cool test... made me want one of these:)

Basta!!!!!!!
It's good to see that one actually got wet! I've got one too and they are excellent watches.
Works then! Eddie should link to this post on the specs page!
Thank your lucky stars I did not happen to be diving there at that time. You would have reeled back just a dead weight

One question though - had you considered the possibility of the watch ending up as expensive bait inside, say, a bluefin tuna? :D
David
As I said, I had a few beers and my pride was at stake, so complex considerations where not really an issue :drunken:Originally Posted by DMR
But: Imagine pulling the watch back up with a big fish attached to it! THAT would have been a story worth telling.
Cheers, Mick
NIce story - the 18Q is one of the best bargains around - better get one quick..
Impressive
Good yarn. It has much more style than trying something similar ( and at a shallower depth ) in a cold muddy disused quarry in NW England with A.N Other' s flippers waving in front of your mask!
I missed this when it was first posted, very cool 8)

Great story and one more real proof about the quality of this watch. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for write-up, nice bit of info.
Really love my 18q
welcome to the asylum..
Not just the watch that was retrieved from the depths...'31st July 2009, 11:59' ?
Missed it too. Nice little tale, well told.
Yeah, nice resurrection for those of us that weren't around these parts in 2009.
Off to sc to look for an 18q now... :)
Got to agree with this, At the price new there is very little that offers better value. Whilst they come up on SC once in a while they got for about £30/40 less than new. Bite the bullet and by a new one you won't regret it, I don't!!
