    Pondering new Speedy options...

    I've always regretted selling my old Speedy, a classic Moonwatch, last year.

    I am contemplating another. Question is, which one?

    I am instinctively drawn to another like-for-like replacement (3570.50), but I did find the Hesalite crystal difficult to live with (I know it is easy to polish out scratches, but I managed to gouge mine, requiring a replacement). But it's cheap and a bona fide classic.

    I am also seriously considering the "sapphire sandwich" (3873.50), which would be more robust, although I'm not that keen on display backs on sports watches.

    The third option is the new automatic coaxial version (311.30.44.50.01.002), which offers the advantage of a date display and automatic winding, but loses out by messing with that iconic dial design. I suppose you could argue it's the modern evolution of a classic (per the new Submariner). But it's also comparatively pricey and doesn't come on the Omega leather/deployant I have my heart set on.

    What say you? :?

    I'd say 3873.50 without any hesitation whatsoever. :D

    Cheers,

    Stick with original. Get any other and you'll feel disatisfied and wish you hadn't

    Seamaster73 instead of buying the speedy i think you should donate the funds to the labour party ;looks like they need donations;

    I'd say the new co-axial with sapphire glass and date any day. For me, unless we are talking about the original moon watch, i.e. the exact design produced right after the moon landing, none of them are really 'original classic'. Therefore, I would opt for the most technically advanced, most functional, modern incarnation.

    Personally, I prefer the vintage Speedies....

    ......and I'd be inclined to save some pennies, and buy a classic -which when you flip it (as you will), shouldn't loose any money!

    You meant first, yes :)

    Only the word "fist" has been ruined, used out of context, by a comment by one Julian Clary Esq.

    The sapphire sandwich is rated to 50m, same as the regular acrylic kind.
    ...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

    I have the same problem, but my choice of the 3 given would be the third. I had the 50th Anniversary "Patch" edition and would very much like another one of those, although the date function on the modern version is very useful
