Re: PRS-5 Pass Around - Pics & Progress

    Hi

Well after 2 weeks with the 5 i though i would share my thoughts on this watch:

My first impression of the watch was very good and on close inspection it only got better. It sits on the wrist very nicely indeed, although i must say that i would have preferred it on a leather strap rather than the NATO. No matter hard i try i just cannot get on with the NATO :? It has a very well balanced feel IMO and is one of those watches that you actually forget you are wearing.

The profile of the case is just great and the slight downturn of the lugs just helps the feel on the wrist even more comfortable. The finish of the case is very well executed and is very uniform indeed.

On the other side of the case the slightly protected crown sits recessed into the case but is still easy to grasp and wind. Winding the watch is a joy and is so smooth. Although the chrono is not working properly the feel of the chrono button operation is very nice, very positive with a good firm 'springy' feel to them.

The dial is very well laid out, very functional and extremely easy to read, something that cannot be said for all chrono's. The quality of the printing on the dial is exceptional and very crisp indeed. I just love the Hour and Min hands as they taper down to their ends, its almost draws your eyes down to the right place to read the time 8)

The acrylic crystal suits the watch very well and give the watch a 'warmer' feel to it and despite opinion being divided on Acrylic/Sapphire, i feel that it is a good option for a watch of this type, it is hard wearing and very easy to get even the nastiest looking of scratches out with a little bit of elbow grease, something that not a simple with Sapphire!

The one thing that did surprise me is that the 5 is not a asymmetrical as i thought, maybe that because it doesnt jump out at you, but the winder/pusher side of the watch in 'real life' is wider than it has ever appeared in any picture. This is not a bad thing, its just more noticeable when you actually handle the watch.

In the time i have had the watch it has never missed a beat and has run consistently at c +3secs a day, superb performance :)

This is another testament to Eddies ability to produce a superb timepiece at a price point that is really unbelievable when the quality of components and craftsmanship is actually experienced..... Long may it continue 8)

    Cheers
    Martin

Re: PRS-5 Pass Around - Pics & Progress

Prs-5 has arrived with me today, excellently packaged.

I have only had time to open and have a very quick look.

First impression is its small, 2nd impression its light.......................................... but this is coming from having an MM 300 strapped to my wrist for the past few weeks :) . The movement is something to behold.

Hope to get a few snaps over the next fews days and will post more when i have spent a little time with it.

Re: PRS-5 Pass Around - Pics & Progress

    It's here!!

All safe and sound - a few light marks on the case, but otherwise in good order!

It's smaller than I've been wearing of late (more a 42mm man these days) but pretty movement and I love the crystal.

Brings back fond memories of my last PRS-5...

More pics and reports over the next two weeks.

    Cheers,

    Guy :)

PS Thanks to Jon for his organising and to Nev for posting it a day early! 8)

Is that SMP GMT smaller then a regular SMP? The PRS-5 seems bigger in the pics yet it's quite a small piece...

The SMP is "full-size" - 41.2mm or whatever it is. I think the SMP has quite short lugs though, and the PRS5 has quite long lugs, which may trick the eye.

Re: PRS-5 Pass Around - Pics & Progress

The PRS-5 is now on its way to Cliff :) so I thought I should post some parting comments and pics...

Firstly, it was very different to wear than most of my other watches - it seemed smaller and lighter (most likely due to the plexi crystal) on the wrist than it looked off, but that was not a bad thing as it made it very unobtrusive - despite the fact that, actually, it was quite tall (especially on the NATO.) For those of you waiting to have your turn I strongly recommend purchasing one of Eddie's open-ended aviator straps in readiness - that would set it off a treat IMHO.

The decorated movement was lovely to look at and obviously the display back would benefit from a non-NATO strap too! Saying that, I wore it exclusively on the green NATO and that looked awesome - very Mil-style.

To finish up, here are some pics next to various other watches currently residing in my watch box.

Thanks again to Jon for organising and to Eddie for another cracking watch!

    Cheers,

    Guy :)

Quick update, sadly Cliff (cmcm3) was burgled yesterday as per this thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=78573 however the PRS-5 is OK. As I'm sure we understand this may delay the sending of the PRS-5 onto Ledgie and we'll confirm things back on track as soon as possible.

    Ledgie - I'll drop you a PM.

    Morning all,

Just to let you know that the PRS-5 has now landed safely with me. :D Many thanks to Cliff for getting it to me despite having a lot of other stuff to deal with at the moment.

First impressions are good and since it's the first display back watch I've had, I'm enjoying looking at the movement and seeing the elves at work :smurf:

Pictures will follow shortly along with a more detailed review.

    Cheers,

    Gary

Not a bad idea for a bit of a change... I could get everyone to PM me their postcode work it out from there... or we could just do that for a bit of fun as I know not everyone keeps an eye on the thread!

With regard to the length of time this is taking... It's a balancing act between how much you have you pay and how long you get to enjoy the watch (also taking into account how many are involved and how much the watch is). Personally I feel 1 week is just too short though we did poll this before we started and the results were equally divided between 1 week, 2 weeks and didn't mind so I chose 2 weeks. This was all decided and agreed before we went ahead.

If anyone is bored with waiting and wants to drop out please PM me to discuss.

    Cheers

2 weeks is perfect IMO, as to the cost, look at it this way around £10 rental for 2 weeks, £10 raffle ticket to potentially win the watch?

It is a slow process, but everyone knew this at the start, but like me were hoping for an early draw! IMO this passround is great fun, and I can't wait to participate in some more.

 to Jon for organising this and keep the communication going, top man.

As my time with the PRS-5 draws to an end I thought I would post up a few photo's as my contribution to the thread. Probably nothing which hasn't been done before and almost certainly mine will be of a lower standard  (I try my best with my point and shoot camera!)

The PRS-5 is not my usual kind of watch but I enjoyed wearing it and made a welcome change in style for me.
The baton is now being passed on to Lippy!
    Thanks
