We've seen a few slip through the net recently and I'm being bombarded with new registrations from Ukraine, Russia and neighbouring countries. It took me almost an hour to check all the new registrations this morning and I had to delete all but 6 of them. I don't have the time to do this every day so the forum is closed to new registrations until further notice.

So how will you combat the huge influx of new registrations? will it be a case of just closing the forum registration for a few days until they move to a new site (once they realise they cannot register anymore)
Is there not a security device they can put on to stop these types of registrations? like an auto close for accounts with 0 posts after so many days?

I jointly moderate a relatively low traffic kit-car forum. We sporadically get a whole load of gmail account registration attempts - maybe 20-30 at a time. Because we ask new registrants to give us a few words about themselves before they are approved, it is very easy to sort the wheat from the chaff.
You have my sympathy Eddie, with a forum with this volume of traffic.

Are you wondering why you can't yet start a thread or send a private mesage? We have an anti-spam system for new members known as the nursery. You get full permissions once you have been on the site for 48 hours AND posted 5 times in existing threads.
It may be a rule but it's probably also a feature of the software, which this forum software doesn't have. I don't propose monitoring and counting all new user posts. :wink:
