    What have I done..

Daughter, 17, said to me yesterday:

"Dad, we (her and her boyfriend) were looking at Sinn and Grand Seiko watches last night" (Sinn pronounced correctly).

Me: 'Oh, what did you think?"

Her: "I didn't know Sinn were so cheap, some were like £2k!"

"£2k is still a lot of money darling"

"How many Rolexes do you have? Do you still have the Pepsi?"

"I've never had a Pepsi darling"

"Yes you did - the red and blue one..?"

"I think you're thinking of the blue and black one"

"..and a Sprite. You had one of those?"

"Close - you're thinking of the Sub LV. How do you even know the nicknames..??"

    "Dunno.."

Gulp. Birthdays might become a bit expensive!

Thankfully my daughter was happy with an Apple Watch for her eighteenth, you might not be so lucky!

Haha! Sharing a hobby is great, maybe just a cheaper one.

    Funny.

You never know when your kids are actually paying attention to you.

Usually when it's expensive or annoying LOL.

Social media flexing is in full effect for that age group!

Yeah, I’d assumed TikTok was partly to blame. I always ask her opinion when I get a new watch (and she certainly doesn’t sugar the pill if it’s not to her liking!) but I don’t recall ever discussing Rolex nicknames with her.

Reminds me of similar conversations with mine. Gave me a big smile today reading yours.

(How is that, as an aside? You may save me from horological faux-pas.)

Thank you for that. After all these years, I've been pronouncing it wrongly.

OP's conversation does remind me of a few toy cost conversations with my 11 year old. He also needs recalibrating at times!

    That’s not a sin.

My lad expressed an interest in my Seiko BM when he was about 5. I promised it to him on his 16th birthday. That's in August! Back then, it was a pretty cheap watch (I think I paid £90 for it). Not so much now...

Well done on raising a little connoisseur!

My lad has already been dropping hints that he wants an Omega piepan be it a 168 or a 14381 for his 21st birthday.
I have a year to sort it out I suppose.
He favours smaller watches than me, and quite often borrows my Accutron Astronaut and he has a Cartier Tank must that he inherited from his Mam.
